But to respond to Setmadsen, yeah, I'm no expert on classical music, but I have a basic grasp of music history and have listened to a bit of every era. I was being partially sarcastic in mocking the muse song, but what bugs me about it is that to me it isnt that the string arrangements are bad, it just sounds like they copy and pasted those string melodies and arrangements out of pretty much every dramatic film soundtrack ever instead of trying to do something different, then combined them with super obnoxious stadium rock with absolutely no emotional subtlety. Not my thing.

moment by moment response, I listened to it twice:

first part: Oh hey, strings, OH god this sounds like a film soundtrack....Wait I pretty sure I've heard the exact same notes in at least 20 soundtracks before....oh dear their adding drums....."OOOOH were so dramatic and deep with our dramatic toms"....God I can just imagine smoke machines and a cheesy light show.....Oh dear its the singer.....1 minute later- oh dear he's still going, god this is boring, HEY YOU KNOW WHAT, this would go along great with the scene in spinal tap where they come out of those bod things on stage......is it over yet?
second part: oh finally....hey chromatic piano stuff...coool, hey where did it go? OH NOT MORE FUCKING OVERDRAMATIC STRINGS!!!!!!! imitating generic film soundtracks isn't cool!!!!!!!......oh dear boring singer back....is it turning into a powerballad? .....nope, its turning into some fucked up stadium rock thingy, and the singers at it again, and the lyrics suuuuck, at least I can ignore them if i try.....WOULD THEY STOP WITH THE FUCKING STRINGS ALREADY!!!!!....oh theres the chromatic piano again, why didn't they have more of that??
Third Part: Redemption, of god you guys better damn well redeem yourselves....uhhhh its generic piano ballad stuff.......AND MORE FUCKING "WE THINK WERE DEEP BECAUSE WERE IMITATING CLASSICAL MUSIC" STRINGS!!!!!!!!!!!.......oh NOW it turns into a power ballad, hey look the singers turned into thom yorke, I HATE POWER BALLADS!!!! Hey It Stopped, cool, that part ended before it could get boring....uh cheesy string outro.....at least its over.....uh my ears... now where is my trout mask vinyl????I must cleanse myself!!!!!

Well, I think Muse can be pretty overrated by its fans, and most of the new album is pure shite, but this track is nice space-y little number. It's like 2001: A Space Oddysey in song, it's quite nice, you should take at least a listen.

ow. I sometimes do worry about popular bands and wonder "Do I only dislike this because its popular??". But given some thought, NO I DON'T GODDAMMIT!. The music sounds to me trite, cheesy, unintelligent and false! This means Muse!

Also, look at my chart, stuff like U2 + Coldplay stand for practically the opposite of what I look for in music...

...Of course looking at my chart might make you think what I look for in music is crazy people shouting random shit over weird noises 🤣

I admit I can be an elitist prick (and feel to make fun of me for it 😄 ), but I do honestly like what I like and dislike what I dislike, so don't imply that I only hate something because its popular. 😁

And yes Muse is one of the best rock bands out there right now. Saw them live and felt they were better than Foo Fighters, Thrice, U2, No Doubt, Sheryl Crow, Piebald, The Anniversary, Radiohead, and whatever other bands I have seen but can't remember right now. Love all of their albums, except that compilation Hubabaloo or however it is spelled.

Another band that I think their music, especially the Major/Minor, Beggars, and Alchemy Index albums, is amazing, but don't have REAL impact on culture is Thrice. I don't like their earlier stuff- reminds me of shit I hate, like Dashboard or All American Rejects or something.

So I like all these bands you guys are mentioning, but it seems that at least some can agree that Hip/hop electronic music has made more of an impact in America, than rock bands. ???

Other great great US bands from the 00s: Interpol, TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Mars Volta, The Killers,The White Stripes, Beirut, Animal Collective. they are all mostly indie bands and highly creative.

but i agree that in the 00s the US produced more hip hop super-groups or super-artists:

1. Kanye West
2. Outkast
3. Eminem
4. jay-z

This is what I mean- those indie bands are very talented, but I don't know how relevant they are to culture; whether or not they are popular is irrelevant to me. Also, I wanted to focus only on 2000s - so The Killers, The Strokes, and White Stripes are the candidates. I like their music. I just don't know if they could be put up to the earlier decades best bands of America- Nirvana, 80s R.E.M., CCR, Bob Dylan, etc. That's all I'm saying. Although I like their music better, I feel like the 4 you listed above will have more influence on U.S. culture than any of the American bands listed so far for the 2000s. Maybe I'm wrong, but could you agree with me a smidge?

Also has anyone noticed that The Strokes Last Night intro and Tom Petty's American Girl intro are almost the same thing?
