It's a long-winded summary of the history of geology and how Christianity appears to be obsessed with reconciling itself with Noah's flood and geologic time. Unless you're really into science history, I would avoid it. The story of J Harlan Bretz is somewhat of a microcosm for the whole situation, so research that if you're interested.

There were a few interesting things that salvaged it. Namely, that Catholicism historically embraced scientific discovery and a metaphorical interpretation of the bible (typically), while Protestants demanded a literal interpretation of the bible and could therefore not accept many scientific discoveries. And then there were several short anthropological discussions about flood stories around the world scattered throughout the text; the most interesting one involved Tibetan locals telling the author of a local catastrophic flood (yes, the roof of the world had a catastrophic flood).

I always loved the film/TV series, so I thought I'd try the book. I'm really liking it so far (about half way through).

Just finished reading "Dune" for the first time. Interesting read since the story can be approached from different angles. I find it interesting to watch how the personality of the main hero changes throughout. Overall I think it was a good read but for some reason I'm not enamored enough to read the sequels.

Speaking of sequels, next planned read is "Clash of Kings" which is sequel to "Game of Thrones"
