The Ballad Of Darren (2023) by Blur

I enjoyed this one. First time hearing it all the way through.
I think the first time I listened to it, I fell asleep cos I put it on real late at night.
But I was just tired, it's far from boring.

I dig ' The Narcissist '. I assume that one was a single.

This was a mellow one. Post rock music is not my favourite genre but this was good. Relaxing. Creates a good atmosphere.

This was a good 'un.

I think I heard a couple of their tracks before.
It's good and quite jarring in places . So it was a stimulating listen.

Van Halen II by Van Halen

Van Halen are a band who only impressed me with the song Jump and later Hot For Teacher. Jump was a big song for me in the 80s. I loved it.

But Van Halen were not nearly as big in the UK as they were in the States.

I don't think so anyway but I don't remember much of the late 1970s. I was too small.

And, of course, we were all impressed with Eddie Van Halen's guitar work on Michael Jackson's song Beat It off his massive Thriller album. That solo was legendary.

I was impressed with this album. Van Halen Two. It's upbeat and cheeky and it's a lot of fun.

I can see why they were successful. I imagine they were big in Canada and the rest of Europe also.

It's a short album too. So it's one I will definitely return to. I also like their debut album. And 1984 album, of course.

And I will always remember that Marty McFly in the movie Back to the Future was a big fan of Van Halen. God bless Michael J Fox. Man is a legend.

Dance Album by Carl Perkins

This was pretty excellent old time rock and roll. I noticed that three of the tracks have been covered by The Beatles. I read that George Harrison sung at Carl Perkins' funeral.

I like Mr Perkins' version of Blue Suede Shoes although I don't know who recorded it first - him or Elvis. Elvis's version is hard to beat though.

I was reading up on Carl Perkins. Sounds like he was a really good guy. Am glad I listened to this for the first time. A piece of history.

Moanin' The Blues by Hank Williams

This was like a wow album.
I can see why Mr Hank Williams gets so many plaudits.
I feel like I have been on a journey just listening to this short album.

Have meant to check his music out ever since I saw Scottish comedian Billy Connolly say how much he loved to buy old 45s of Hank Williams when he was a boy.

It's both.

The talk box sends the sound made by the guitar through a plastic tube into the player's mouth. The player then uses his mouth to manipulate the sound by changing the shape of his mouth (including mouthing words), which is then sent out through the microphone.
