I just saw this now, but I would also be happy to be a monthly supporter either directly or through Patreon. I wouldn't need any bonus features, but being able to go over 100 albums in a list would be nice.

The difference there is that the Foundation that runs Wikipedia uses only about 10% of the funds people donate to it to actually "keep the lights on," and the other 90% goes to administrative overhead/salaries and "movement promotion." Here on BEA, I suspect those percentages would be reversed. And frankly, BEA has nicer people involved in it in general.

I when expressing sadness for the lack of response was not referring to AlbumMaster's but the thousands of BEA user's. I was expecting tons of tears and or ideas. I am one of those who send my money regularly to Wikipedia. It shouldn't be my job. It should be a political task. Every country should contribute to Wikipedia - the most beautiful thing on the internet. BEA is also up there. BEA is BEAutiful.

Apologies from my side, went away on vacation for a couple of weeks & still catching up. My vacation included checking in every morning to BEA before doing anything else with my day, so the site has kind of taken over everything. Just taking a deep breath before taking things any further.

EDIT: FWIW, I liked your ideas about social media. Engagement is exceptionally low right now on Facebook and X so anything to improve this would be worth doing. X has been a bit of a nightmare since the takeover - API changes, account being suspended/restored (because they thought the account was a minor/under-age!) and shadow-banning. It's a lot of work just to keep social media activity going with the hurdles put in place, without even starting on the rest of the site (all posts are automated apart from status updates, so could add some more if it helped attract more people to the site).

It would be nothing short of a disaster for me. This is the best site for album overview out there. No comparison. It's Wikipedia for popular music. I once suggested implementing BEA album-placements on Wikipedia but AM was against it. I of course still strongly disagree, although he made some good points as always. I also remember that the site was mentioned by Spotify once as factual proof. I am still naively there: let's go from house to house and spread the gospel. The world needs to know about this site. Not as a social media (I have never bothered participating in the forum much, only the suggestions part of it), but as the main source for getting to know the best music produced in this world these last 75 years or so. I'm not a believer (or fan) of subscription. Donations though (via you know where). Also it could help if some superhero could make daily updates on tiktok (also a donations possibility), insta, x or face with Album of the day, This album has birthday today, Trending album, this weeks list etcetera. I wish I was that person but 'im not. But whatever you decide AM give us a head up as I have so much data here. Give me a chance to save them somewhere, please. I have spent 13 years almost every day rating very close to 100% of all the songs I ever heard here on this site and haven't - like dihansse - an excel or cloud or nothing for backup.

Just for the record, I don't believe larger charts and larger page sizes would make anyone feel excluded — for that you'd probably have to do something much more obvious, like set up separate-but-visible subscriber-only forums, or have subscribers' comments appear at the top of the pile on high-ranking albums that have a lot of comments attached. Little gold-ribbon icons next to the member-names might be taken the wrong way, but I doubt most people here would even care one way or the other about those.

I haven't been doing much coding lately myself, but (at the risk of being really annoying) it doesn't seem like increasing those limits would be all that hard to do either — if the limits aren't already set up as global/session variables, you just have to make some, and then find where the limits are hard-coded and change them to use those variables instead, right?

I just only now read your June site update message and I'm very sorry to hear that it's financially difficult to keep the site running but I can completely understand why.

For me this site is very important. I'm not only using it to meet with people also heavily interested in music but I also use it as a means to keep some order in my personal music library (next to Apple Music and a massive excel file) and it would take me some time to find another working method if I would lose this source so I will be very happy to participate financially via a subscription (my personal preference) or via other means.

Personally I wouldn't give a lot of extras to the subscribers: I don't want the site to be divided between subscribers and non-subscribers: I wouldn't like to see less visits or participation because non-subscribers feel they are excluded. I think it suffices to do what you already started: to give subscribers some extra points (maybe to be purchased on top of the basic subscription fee).

So I really hope (and I'm fairly convinced you will) find enough people wanting to financially participate: as far as I'm concerned the sooner the better!

And again congratulations for keeping this site up for such a long time and hope you will be able to continue it (of course if you still want to).

Hi, thanks for the idea. BEA 'achievements' is an idea on the backburner e.g. for login streaks, comments, charts, long serving members (e.g. ten year club) etc kind of like you have on games consoles (but one thing that has held this back is graphics etc). This could be extended to show size of collections etc and whether a user has supported BEA either through a subscription, or extra points (donations possibly something separate if that's added). Any feature likely to increase site activity would be a good thing to add.
