Garbage - Milk (Wicked Mix)

Garbage are good but I've never gotten fully into them on the level I feel I could or maybe should have.

Milk was the final single off their debut album, this version came out later, featuring Tricky alongside Garbage, even if not credited by Now.

It's good, but I felt it could have been more.

Sheryl Crow makes her Now debut, the opening single off her self titled second album.

Crow really made her own space in that 90's alt pop rock country scene thing and got a huge following on the back of it, this was a continuation of that.

While not my favourite of hers, it's a good time.

The opening track off Moseley Shoals, probably my favourite of theirs, got a lot of plays in early 00's crime movies it felt like.

A good time and probably my favourite of theirs, a real festival staple across Ireland and the UK during my festival days.

Crowded House - Don't Dream It's Over

You may be thinking, this sounds very 80's, and that's because it is, this being released on Crowded House's debut album back in 86.

We haven't had this here before, though we did get Paul Young's 1991 cover version.

Anyway, made a bit resurgence in the UK in 86 and here we are.

Still very good, would have been higher if was on here when it was first released but it remains one of Crowded House's strongest effort and very much shows an 80's style I like a lot.

Dodgy - If You're Thinking Of Me

Dodgy's follow up single to the hit Good Enough, off the same album, never really took off, I think too much a turn in a different direction and it struggled to be what people wanted.

Couldn't capture the same appeal from people and felt like more of a mid-album filler song, and back to obscurity they went really.

Well they're back together and releasing music, but not to the same level.

This one still gets mountains of play on Irish radio, the lead single of their 5th album, Blue Is The Colour.

Paul Heaton had a hand in writing this one but Jacqui Abbott did the singing, probably drops a bit in my regards due to oversaturation.

But ultimately I don't mind it.

Babybird - You're Gorgeous

Another song that can be marked as very much a 90's one hit wonder.

Babybird was mostly the work of Stephen Jones, beginning as a solo project but members were added in due course, churning out 6 albums in 95-95, this being on the 6th album.

Just a huge 90's cult hit and one of the last embers of out and out Britpop it felt like, Babybird broke up in 2000 after 8 albums in 5 years and have since been back together twice, currently still releasing music.

A bit of a banger.

Very much in the one hit wonder category, it was the only real charting by Texas band Deep Blue Something.

Off their second album, it's this crazy catchy alt pop hit that I'm sure most of you have heard at some point or another.

It's really catchy, I'm sure Truman Capote would be a fan.

For the second album in a row the Spice Girls kick us off, the second single off their debut album, being released in September 96, NOW 35 was released November 1996, just in time for Christmas.

Not on the same scale as Wannabe but still a really catchy pop hit from the Spice Girls, who were absolutely massive at this point, like getting their own movie massive (though that wouldn't come until next year).

Boyzone - Coming Home Now

The 6th and final single off Boyzone's debut album, more like East 17 than traditional Boyzone here (if such a thing exists).

Still a good track I enjoy now and again, and a reasonably pleasant way to round out NOW 34, this track appearing on it a year after it was released on Boyzone's Said & Done.

Tomorrow we move up to November, 1996.

Cast's 4th and final single off their debut album, think I've done a bit on them already, this is more of a slower style than the others, not my favourite of theirs but still a decent track, more akin to The Universal by Blur.

Space - Female Of The Species

Space were kind of forgotten about, not really a huge commercial success, so surprised to see them here but they have crossed my radar.

This was their only charting single I believe, randomly the 4th single off their debut album, it's a blend of alt rock, psychedelic dancey Primal Scream type stuff and trip hop, there's definitely some interesting things going on and nice to see something from the leftfield showing up here now and again.

A pleasant surprise.

OMD - Walking On The Milky Way

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, now being stylised as OMD, off their 10th album, Universal (not sure I've heard it actually), released this as the lead single.

Moving away from the synth era, they were now firmly routed in pop rock and I quite like, like a weird modern-ish Beatles thing to some extent, it's rather pleasant and one of their highest releases in the list.

Also, just one letter removed from the last entry OMC, which was definitely done on purpose when putting this album together, I find that funny.

OMC - How Bizarre

Unbelievable, this is what music should be, just a real fun time.

A bizarre blend of hip hop and pop from New Zealand the one and only album released by OMC in 1996, and their only real hit.

The group founders, brothers Pauly and Phil and no longer alive sadly, lead singer Pauly passing in 2010 and after a long illness, but they've left a huge legacy in New Zealand with just one album.

I love everything about this song right down to the video.

Could have anywhere but it ends up in the top 5.

Everything But The Girl - Wrong

I put this under that kind of standard Everything But the Girl sound, this was all the way on their 9th album, Walking Wounded.

Their 3rd entry here, it always feels like they've got a similar sound in them all, you can pick them out a mile away, probably more at home in the 80's, but still a reasonably solid effort that lands somewhere in the middle.
