Cripes...

1. A CD Player. iPods are convenient but the sound quality is suspect. Vinyl is hard to stick in the post and wrap properly. Plus CDs fit in your pocket... very handy.
2. Sennheiser HD448s. Bloody love 'em, now they've bedded in.
3. So they've never heard ANY music before... hmm...

To get them a CD with just one artist on is ridiculous. What if they hate your choices (as eclectic as you're trying to be) - you've lost the battle. No, they need as much exposure to as many genres as 3 hours allows. I remember when I was 8 getting a compilation called "The Hits Tape" with tracks from 1984 on - everything from Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jnr to Apollo 9 by Adam Ant, with disco, soul and pop to boot. I loved it.

To this end, and bearing in mind the musical snobs amongst us (me included) there is only one conceivable option:

3- Suede-Dog man star (skip We are the pigs)

Work your way up with Manchester Orchestra,Spirit,Doors and finish with the Allman brothers band

if the reaction is not satisfactory after the first notes of Ian Matthews go for classic in that case:

Gershwin-Rhapsody in Blue
Mussorgsky-Pictures at an Exhibition (NOT the famous live album from ELP but the classic performance)
Several piano concerts from Beethoven and Mahler

NEVER go for I-pod nothing beats the pure stereo sound of vinyl or CD
no matter what docking station you use you'll always miss the warmth of analog

I'm toying around with these albums, trying to decide which album goes and which stays:

Exile on Main St.
Rubber Soul
Highway 61 Revisited
A Love Supreme
Are You Experienced
Ramones
Graceland

"Graceland" may change to "Thriller". All I know is that at least one '80s album will make an appearance.

Currently, this has the total of around 5 hours. 😁

1. Choose a system

This could either be an iPod, mp3, cd player, vinyl player, Walkman or any other format I haven't included. You don't have to tell me the exact model. You can only pick one.

2. Choose a speakers or head phones?

So speakers, head phones, ear phones or docking station? Anything else you can think of to go here? Well you can choose it.

3. Choose the music

3 hours limit. You can choose less than 3 hours if you want. You have to say whether they are computer files, CD's, Vinyl's, cassettes, mini discs or whatever else. Do you pick your favorites or do you pick what is the most acclaimed? Do want to show as much cultures as you can in your tiny limit or do you put all your chips on hard rock?

Those are the rules 😁 Off you go and find something for your new friend!

Final thing: While the person will be very appreciative of your gift, meaning you don't have to worry about taste so much, they come from place where violence is a taboo and untalked of subject. Most forms of violence will cause them to feel very uneasy, unnerved and in some cases ill. Descriptions of strong violence will cause them to convulse and die. For some reason this is written in the small print of your instruction sheet.
