without doubt would have been one of the Gerry Anderson theme tunes. Maybe Fireball XL5, Stingray or Thunderbirds.

Strangely, mine might also be the Locomotion. I remember dancing to it at a party when I was about 5 or 6. I can’t think of an earlier musical memory of a proper song. It might have been the Kylie version though.

The first song I ever remember thinking was my favourite was “Wake me up before you go go” by Wham. Probably when I was 7 or 8. Then I remember really liking “Heaven is a Place on Earth” by Belinda Carlilse and “Beat it” by Michael Jackson around the same time.

I find this topic interesting because in some ways my tastes have not grown up. All these songs still sound absolutely great.

I also remember this as being one of the first songs I really loved when I was little. Except it was the Grand Funk Railroad version from the '70s. Interestingly, I once read that this was the only song to reach Number One three separate times. Little Eva in the 60s, Grand Funk in the 70s, and Kylie Minogue in the 80s. The writer of the song, Carole King, also had a version in the '80s but I don't think it was a hit.

That makes 3 of us here who had this song in our very early childhoods. I guess it was a really popular song.

Yes, many people probably do remember hearing children's music first, but I didn't. It's probably because of the Little Eva song I mentioned being on an album of my mother's that I played a whole lot when I was very little. That is the first song I ever remember hearing, but I also remember a cardboard record with a picture of a ballerina on it, that had music from The Nutcracker on it. So, music from The Nutcracker is the first instrumental music I ever remember hearing.

I have a strong memory of being spun around in my Mother's arms to Abba's Dancing Queen, when I was very small.
Also I have a strong memory of hearing Rivers Of Babylon by Boney M, in my Grandfather's car, at Christmas time. Good memories.

After that, it was Another Brick in the Wall, by Pink Floyd, which was Christmas number one in the UK in 1979. I loved it but it had a disturbing video. Other songs I remember vividly are Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street, Never Let Her Slip Away by Andrew Gold, and Please Mr Postman by the Carpenters.

I was lucky to have a Mother who was always playing good music.

I really can't recall which was the first song ever I heard so no point pretending I can but the first record I can remember playing for myself from my parents vinyl collection on their old Dansette Record Player was this 7 inch

Because there is no way that I can remember for sure what was the first song that I ever heard, all that I can tell you is that I was born in 1982, Sesame Street is what my mom had on the TV for me, but when we were in the car, country music is what would be on the radio. 😄 😄 😄

I'm sure I heard a lot of songs before it, but the first song I specifically REMEMBER hearing was a Christmas song as a matter of fact. Rockin Around The Christmas Tree by Brenda Lee. I remember listening to it on a Christmas album that my parents had.
