What's Bin Did And What's Bin Hid (1965) by Donovan

Bought back in the late 60’s. Don’t ask me why I chose this as my first ever purchase. The reasoning has been lost to the sands of time. I do remember that I bought it in solihull (a smallish town on the outskirts of Birmingham) which no longer exists ( the record shop, not the town!)

Love the blues brothers soundtrack. We watched that film to death back in the day.

Those were a pretty fine three days.

Great story romanelli. I started listening to music on my aunts all in one. Crap sound but didn’t know any better back then.

First album iI bought was with my pocket money, aged 11 or 12. It was:

Actually (1987) by Pet Shop Boys

As for my first serious record on vinyl, aged about 17 I got a good copy of this:

Hunky Dory (1971) by David Bowie

I played it to death on the old Aiwa record player I inherited from my Parents.

Someone should do another thread of first singles!

My first 7" record was Everybody Wants To Rule The World by Tears For Fears. Still one of my favourite songs today.

If we are supposed to be talking about actual records and not albums on any other format, the first record that I remember buying was Billy Joe Royal's self-named album released in 1980, and I got it from the Amazon website in 2016.

Standing In The Road by Blackfoot Sue 7' from a second hand box. I was 12 I didn't have enough spends for a current chart single which would have been about 50p UK money at the time but I was determined to leave with something and I guess I just liked the look of the label (because in the UK they didn't come in picture covers at that time). Bought it unheard but it turned out not to be a bad choice. Could have been a lot worse as first records go.

The Unforgettable Fire by U2

I was obsessed with U2 when I was a teenager....not so much anymore. Still, they had a string of amazing albums from War to Achtung Baby. This is my first record I bought and my favourite U2 album.

Discovery by Electric Light Orchestra

They were my first musical love. To find lesser known album tracks away from the greatest hits collection I was given prior was a joy. The runts of the litter hidden away on albums more often than not become the most cherished tracks.

P.S. I can't remember which one came first. I only remember that my purchase of Tanya's album was during the summer of 1991. I just now read that the album was released on July 2nd that year which was two days after my ninth birthday. 😄 😄 😄

Magical Mystery Tour by The Beatles

I still have it, too... I should check whether or not it's still playable. It should be, since I never did subject it to 500-degree blast oven conditions like I did with the Gary Numan albums.

In my case it was "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" about 10 years ago. During those years I was obsessed with Oasis, so when I saw the album in a music store, I didn't hesitate to buy it.
