Yeah, that's basically the case. I mean, I don't want to be pretentious or anything, but it's sort of annoying when you fall in love with all these avant-garde albums, but because you like all the Rolling Stone classics along with it, people think you've just discovered, lets say, OK Computer, even though I've actually been pretty bored of it for the past year.

Of course, I must point out that this wasn't a very substantial change at all. Only about 7-8 albums were affected, a few of them (such as Is This It) I wanted to omit for PR reasons anyway.

Why would "people" think you've just discovered OK Computer if you have a chart that is made up of the jewels from 60 years of making albums?

Humans are really complicated ! this website asked one question : what do you think are the best albums ever ? this question is very clear and simple. but people start thinking about including the greatest albums, a policy of 1 album per artist, promoting obscure albums, adding albums from each decade ... and so on.

Totally agree. I love Wish You Were Here and Dark Side Of The Moon; not because of their canonical nature, but because I really enjoy listening to them.

I've thought about removing all the BEA Top 100 choices from my chart........but I don't think I'd like to do it.

Because...what if some of your favorites ARE obvious choices? What if you REALLY love them? Then, if you're making a personal chart, with just YOUR personal faves, then there are bound to be some of those "obvious" choices. If they don't fit your taste, then remove them from your chart. Don't remove obvious choices just because they're already common knowledge, it's what your own personal taste is. Personally, I'd HATE to remove some of my favorite albums, like "Highway 61 Revisited", "Revolver", "The Beatles", "The Velvet Underground & Nico", "Pet Sounds", "Paranoid", "Rubber Soul", etc. just because they are from the BEA Top 100? So what then, if I like it too and I include it? Am I "promoting" something which is already common knowledge? No, I'm just saying, "Now look here, this is a really awesome album, and I really liked it".

Exactly. Funeral showing up on someone like Ap's list is a much more significant indication of its quality than if it showed up on, say, Naples'(sorry dude).

I agree, finding a needle in Ap's haystack would be significant.

I think the idea of "what is great or best" is totally individual. Okay, some will follow the crowd of critics and people before them saying that Album X is the greatest and include that in their chart. I had a similar dilemma when I initially came to the site. I was feeling pressured to put albums into my chart that were "great" just because 800-odd other charts had it in theirs.

I looked at my 2010s decade chart yesterday and noticed a lot of album in there are 1-offs. Granted it is early in the decade but in some of my other charts there is this individuality. That is where this site is great for showing off real taste and what people link themselves with.

Best Ever Albums is searching for the best and greatest but really, your chart should be your best, not someone else's opinion.

Oh, well that's different. I think you should say your favorites are your favorites regardless of their popularity. After all, your chart isn't really about what you're trying to "promote", it's a list of the things you love. It is for me, anyway.
