Hmm, I've noticed something about James Joyce's books: they sound a whole lot better when you read them aloud. Particularly Finnegans Wake is really enjoyable. Hey, who cares whether I understand even a single word of it? I'll just read it aloud to myself, it'll be fun!

You know, if I ever make a band, then I'll probably name it after a word in Finnegans Wake. 🤔 i.e. "Humptyhillhead", "Mishe mishe", "Offwall", "A Bland Old Isaac", "Bababadalgharaghtakamminarronnkonnbronntonnerronntuonnthunntrovarrhounawnskawntoohoohoordenenthurnuk", etc.
There are also album title ideas: "From Swerve of Shore to Bend of Bay", "Tumptytumtoes", "Upturnpikepointandplace", "Oftwhile Balbulous, Mithre Ahead", "Sendday's Eve and, Ah, You're Vinegar!", "Hahahaha, Mister Funn, You're Going to Be Fined Again!", "Killykillkilly", "Boomeringstroms", "What Strawng Voice of False Jiccup", "Aquaface", "Riverrun, Past Eve and Adam's", etc.

I like that "cycle" idea of the book, where the ending of the book leads onto the beginning again, or something like that, which I tried a long time ago.

(By the way, I love Shaw too! Pygmalion anyone?)

I haven't read too much Shaw, just the requisite amount for class, really, but John Bull's Other Island is one of my favorite plays just for its remarkable character work alone.

In fact, I think I'll go buy a big e-book anthology of all his plays right now.

yes weedygonsalez Playboy of the Western World is very good and i've read all his collected plays,Shaw in some ways hasnt aged well as his plays dealt with contemporary issues but many of his ideas and themes are universal and timeless,my favour shaw play simply for the comedy it contains is Arms and the Man.

Dubliners or Artist are also great places to start, beautiful and accessible works both of them.

Try Ulysses again. It's a great read. The last part alone is a masterpiece in itself, if you can't get down to reading the whole book, try the last part, it's so incredibly beautiful.

Joyce was a interesting writer and Dubliners is a delight but i really cant be bothered with such a self regarding book as Finnegans Wake,its like trying to decipher a code and Joyce asks too much of his readers,would rather spent my time with a Shaw play a fellow Irishman whos very neglected nowdays.

I'll get to it when I finish Ulysses. If I'm already not going to understand it, I may as well try to get an understanding of Joyce as a whole first.

Plus, Ulysses is (so far) an awesome read.
