A glaring error - I forgot to mention and no one else mentioned:

THE BREAKFAST CLUB!!!

Dammit, that's probably the best soundtrack of all time and none of us thought of it, even while coming close with Pretty in Pink. 🀑 I'm sure Sixteen Candles had a pretty good soundtrack too, as did Fast Times at Ridgemont High. And Highlander's soundtrack was awesome even if it was exclusively by Queen.

As part of the film? Hmm, I'm not really sure I was thinking of that one.........but, okay, if anybody wants to, they can do both.

Mr. Shankly wrote:

I don't agree that Beatles albums qualify as soundtracks, if we're talking about the British ones. If it's the American A Hard Day's Night and Help! then sure, but the British one's stand as entities apart from the movies themselves. I've quickly scanned the lists and I have two major complaints: One director whose movies always have outstanding soundtracks is Wes Anderson, and I haven't seen The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic or any of those on anyone's lists! Also, O Brother, Where Art Thou should be on every single list right up there near the top. Also, did anyone put in The Harder They Come? The Good , The Bad, and The Ugly? What about High Fidelity? (obvious one!) Gross Pointe Blank? Come on people!

I'm only nitpicking because I don't usually listen to soundtracks. Anyways, this is just off the top of my head:

1) The Harder They Come
2) O Brother, Where Art Thou
3) The Graduate
4) The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
5) The Life Aquatic
6) High Fidelity
7) Gross Pointe Blank
😎 The Royal Tenenbaums
9) Saturday Night Fever (Duh!)
10) Rushmore / Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (tie)

Sorry eggman, I see you have a couple of the one's I mentioned on your list. 🫒

Eggman/Walrus/Taxman wrote:

Here are my fave soundtracks (in no particular order):

A Hard Day's Night
Help!
Let It Be
Magical Mystery Tour
The Sound of Music
Psycho
The Harder They Come
Purple Rain
Superfly
Shaft
Saturday Night Fever
Trainspotting
Dazed and Confused

I'll narrow these down to 10 later.

EDIT: I removed some of the choices, and now there are fewer to choose from. Hmmm, which 3 to remove now? :-k

I would rank movie soundtracks as follows:

1. Magical Mystery Tour
2. Psycho
3. A Hard Day's Night
4. The Harder They Come
5. The Sound of Music
6. Superfly
7. Trainspotting
8. Let It Be
9. Help!
10. Dazed and Confused
11. Shaft
12. Saturday Night Fever
13. Breakfast at Tiffany's
14. O Brother, Where Art Thou?
15. Purple Rain
