Top voted comments:

"I remember seeing Win Butler on Colbert saying that he'd like to make people dance with a little tear coming down their face. That pretty much sums up this album, I've never had such a strong urge to dance and cry at the same time as I do listening to this album."
________________________________________________________

"After 6 listens now, I think it's fair to give an opinion. I can't remember the last time an album made me want to dance so much. During my most recent listen, my friends and I all danced for 75 minutes straight to the entire album. It was some of the most fun I've had in a while.

There are definitely ups and downs. I truly think this album is meant to be looked at as Part 1 (disc one) and Part 2 (disc two), because there is a major shift in tone right from the beginning of "Here Comes The Night Time II." While there are themes that run throughout the entire album (reflective age, afterlife, Eurydice & Orpheus, moving on after the death of a loved one, and so on), certain themes are more prominent in Part 1 while others are more prominent in Part 2. I know, I'm probably pointing out the obvious in saying all of this.

While the influences behind many of the songs are rather obvious, I still feel as though I've never quite heard anything like this before. A great example of this is "Porno." Is it ground-breaking? No. But I've never quite heard a song like it. My friends and I agreed that it sounds like sex in the form of music, which I'd imagine is exactly what the band was aiming for.

If I have one complaint, it's this: the lyrical content of this album is not at the same level of its predecessor. In my opinion, the lyrics of The Suburbs are simply on another level. The song where this is most apparent is "You Already Know." It's not a terrible song by any means, but the lyrics feel somewhat...boring. It's almost like everything I ever liked about Win's songwriting was thrown out the window for that song.

However, there are some real knockouts. My personal favourite has got to be "It's Never Over (Oh Orpheus)." So energetic, emotionally exhausting, and attention-grabbing. In the song's intro, I feel a sense of determination, importance, desperation, and passion behind the music. To put it simply, the song makes it clear just how important it is within the context of the entire album (similar, in that way, to "Wake Up" from Funeral).

So while there are some weaker moments, I think the overall product is fantastic. I honestly only see myself coming to like it more with each listen, as has been the case thus far. I can certainly see where some would take issue with the album, but I'd encourage them to enjoy it for what it is rather than tearing it down for what it's not. If you don't feel the urge to get up and dance for the majority of this album, I'd say that you're the problem, not the music.

"It starts in your feet, then it goes to your head, And if you can't feel it, then the rules are dead, And if you're the judge, what is our crime? Here comes the night time...""
If an album, or artist, has previously been selected within a x day period, the next highest album is picked instead (and so on) to ensure a bit of variety.
