Oh yeah, I forgot System of a Down! Try out "Toxicity" and "System of a Down". Oh, and, Happy, if you're looking to get into Pink Floyd, listen to their debut, "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn". It's their best album, IMO, by FAR. There are also some good albums by Yes, like "The Yes Album". My personal favorite by Radiohead is Kid A.

So, anyway, I recommend that you check out all of the albums in my chart that you haven't listened to yet. Or, looking at your post, I could recommend you a few albums right here.
So, anyway, you say you like the Beatles and the Velvet Underground (by the way, I agree, Heroin gets too much praise, as if there weren't other, better songs on the album, like the first two songs), I'd say you'd like a bit of experimental, huh? (I need to know more about your taste, such as, which song by The Beatles is your favorite?) So you might like some of Captain Beefheart's stuff. He has "Trout Mask Replica" ('60s), "Safe as Milk" (also from the '60s), "Doc at the Radar Station" ('80s), "Lick My Decals Off, Baby" ('70s), and some other great albums. This is mostly experimental, and in some cases, you may have to give them many chances before you'll like them (I've heard about some people who didn't like Beefheart at first, but later became great Beefheart fans, though I, strangely, liked it very much on my first listen 🤔 ). If you like metal, you should give The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Black Sabbath, The Stooges, AC/DC and Iron Maiden's albums a try (if you haven't heard them already, of course). Other than that, here are some great bands you should check out: The Beach Boys (somebody mentioned their album "Pet Sounds": that's a brilliant album, and also, "The Beach Boys Today!" and "Surf's Up" are good albums; their song "Good Vibrations" is awesome too), The Who ("Quadrophenia", "My Generation", "Who's Next", "The Who Sell Out"............those are just a few of their masterpieces), Queen ("Sheer Heart Attack" and "A Night at the Opera", particularly, are recommended) and The Allman Brothers Band (I have "At Fillmore East" on my chart: a fantastic live album, certainly). Also, have you listened to the albums "How the West Was Won" (Led Zeppelin) and "Tattoo You" (The Rolling Stones)?

I remember listening to Teenage Riot and thought it was pretty good at the time, don't remember the entire song though.

Also, I don't think I've listened to enough stuff to make even a top 50, or at least stuff that I'm sure I'd put on a list, so I might take a while.

Anyways, thanks for the suggestions! I'll put all those albums into my backlog.

^Yeah I second Sonic Youth. The use of atonal guitar chords is really interesting to hear for the first time and their songs are anchored by catchy hooks, so their music is still quite accessible.

I wonder if you might like Sonic Youth? 🤔 Think atonal Velvet Underground New York art rock meets noisy hard rock / punk rock bluster. I think Daydream Nation is their best album, but most of them are pretty good.

I also recommend The White Stripes, The Black Keys, and Queens of the Stone Age, since you're a rocker at heart. Maybe The Hold Steady too? 🤔

As for The Beatles, what are some of your favorite albums and songs of theirs?

Oh! The Stooges! You must listen to Fun House and Raw Power, and eventually, the first album (Sorry, I beat you to it, Purple 😉 ) They're bluesy, they have a groove, they rock, and there was serious attitude with that band. Also, they were one of the primary influences on punk rock and latter day garage rock.
