upchucky.com uses Google Friend Connect to power their site's community. They have 1631 members. Again I don't know if it is a legal site or not, that is between them, the enforcers and the rats. I'm willing to go out on a limb and guess that a site called "Upchucky.com" and has nobody else referencing it on the first five pages of a google search AND has a terrible layout AND enough ads to choke a horse is probably NOT a legit website.

You and I don't know if the site is legal, any more than YouTube. We don't know whether the site is paying royalties either. I know I am not an attorney or law enforcement officer. I do know I prefer to be an optimist rather than a pessimist.

No man. My point is that if the guy hosting this website with all these songs is running ads (and he is running no less than 3 banner ads - - it finally occured to me to check on my phone) then why does he get to profit off of other artists hard work when all he has done is illegally put them up on his website?

Just today a number of sports streaming sites were seized by the US Gov't because this guy was using those domains to earn thousands of dollars per month to illegally broadcast these sports events. Now I have no doubt this if anything that guy is probably lucky to make $5 a month off of this (the site looks like an old Geocities build), but it still doesn't change the fact that he's illegally streaming music online AND running ads on it to boot.

So how can you condemn somebody for downloading music for their own private use and promote somebody steaming music and turning any sort of profit off it?

I don't know what royalties are paid. There are no audio ads but there are various visual ads on the website. I haven't noticed any pop-ups and registration is not required. Give it a try; I think you will enjoy the songs and their aural quality.

So to be clear, it's ok to listen to music online as long as it's of a shitty quality?

Because there are sites and programs out there which function just like a jukebox (Pandora, Spotify) where the artists do receive some royalities.

Also, are there any ads on this website? I don't know because I haven't visited yet - - it's blocked at my work.

The songs have been modified and are compressed to a lower bit rate ratio and output frequency than what is used on commercial music files. Do not copy any of the music files. The music files are not for sale. Please respect and support the music artists by buying their commercial CD's and downloads.

Yeah!

It then played a song called 'We are the World' by USAForAfrica and now 'Lovin Every Minute Of It' by Loverboy. I hadn't heard of both before but neither are a big deal.
