Besides, I don't spend all day on here, and I suppose most users don't either, and if we're gone for 6, 12, or even 24 hours, a thread we had posted to could now be on the second or third page, which can make it difficult to spot. Even if things are not as busy as they seem, I think it is still better to prepare for an influx of users, threads, and posts, instead of waiting until it happens and then trying to react to it.

I'm not totally sure how the mechanism will work, but I agree with the above. There is a concern over usability, but it shouldn't be rocket-science for most people. The only issue I can see is if there is a topic that spans two or more subforum categories (which might be a reason to use tagging instead), but I think that's the type of thing that can tweaked as we go along.

I just think it's quite difficult to find things at the moment and the forums might be easier to browse if there were specialised areas for certain topics. I'd feel a bit funny about doing nothing to address the issues that purple raised the other day. The only things left on the table are to show related posts at the point of starting a new topic, and to improve the forum search.

It's not so huge that you have to split it up six different ways in order to be able to be aware of all of the content.

It might create too many forums, but I kind of like the idea of ridiculously well-discussed bands having their own forum. Right now only The Beatles and Radiohead come to mind, but perhaps there are others.

As of right now about the only one I can think of is the thread that I started for Iron Maiden.

I felt that they were one of, if not the, most underrated band on BEA so I thought if people actually got 2 know more about the band and their music some people might discover an (IMO) awesome band.

Though I know that you are not big on metal music Fergenaprido 🤣

tagging is a nice idea, but I don't think people would do it properly and it might end up not being that useful. At least a choice of forums kind of forces people to choose a category for their posts. I appreciate there would be a cross over with some posts and that not all posts fit neatly into the schema, so it's just a case of trying to find the best balance.

I like the last idea of clicking on 'Music' at the top, and having it all come up (it gives people a choice).

^ I agree. Maybe have the sub-forums but the option to click on 'Music' like we do now and see all the threads from all the sub-forums, would that be possible? That way you can have all the threads come up as now but also the option to search just the sub-forum you're looking for.

So just like this:

- General
- Albums
- Songs
- Bands & Musicians
- Genres
- Charts

But with the option to click on 'Music' at the top and have it all come up.

Looks good. If a thread talks about an album and the artist and their songs where should an OP place it? Usually when one talks about one of the topics the others are also addressed.

Looks OK but who is going to keep the threads correctly tagged? Perhaps you will have to force OPs to choose a tag like they must choose a subject. Hopefully they will choose the correct tag! If a thread talks about an album and the artist and their songs where do you tag it?
