Thank you for everybody's submissions. Listed below are all of the suggestions put forward since the last time we voted. The list has been trimmed by culling quotes over 80 characters; duplicates that are already on the site have been removed and also some that contain profanity. Other quotes have been trimmed down to size where this was possible. 80 characters isn't a hard and fast rule, several have been allowed in the low 80s where the artist name is fairly short.

To make the vote easier to keep track of, each lyric has been assigned a sequence number.

Please keep the sequence number in your votes, or they won't be counted (sorry). There's no extra work for people to do since all you have to do is copy and paste the selections below (everything after the *** markers) into your post and delete the quotes you don't like.

Only your first post will count, so please try to get it right first time. Please don't vote twice or re-edit your vote afterwards (e.g. to change your mind after you've already voted) as this just complicates the tallying up of votes.

There are 68 quotes to pick from, so I suggest everyone pick a maximum of 30 favourites, and the ones receiving the most votes in the next seven days will be added to the site masthead. (If you list more than the stated number of votes, extra entries beyond the maximum will not be counted.)

The winning quotes will be tidied up/verified/corrected once the voting is complete, but if anyone spots any major errors, don't be shy to let me know! None of these quotes have been checked for correctness yet. These are pretty much directly copied from people's submissions with minor alterations to get them into one list. We've not voted any new song quotes onto the site for about two years, so another round of voting is a bit overdue. Any quotes that have been submitted since the last competition (post #2400 onward) will be automatically up for vote in this competition, so no need to re-submit, and anyone else is encouraged to submit their own favourites.

This is now the 19th competition since the site started & I'll paste below the 'rules' we've been using before:

Background:
At the top of every page on BEA, there is a line from a song which are nice to read, but after a while you've read them all. Post here your favourite quotes from songs, and we'll vote the best ones onto the site.

Rules:

Lyrics should be no longer than ~80 characters (one or two lines of a song) to fit in the site masthead. They should be credited to the original artist (no cover versions), must not contain profanity, and should be recognisable to the majority of visitors. This is what 80 characters looks like:

The preferred format for your song quotes is on a single line as follows (the name of the song helps to verify the quote). It takes a while to assemble all of your quotes for voting, so it would be very helpful if your submissions could be in this format:

And in the end, the love you take, Is equal to the love you make - The Beatles (The End)
There is a maximum of 50 quotes per person (otherwise voting becomes unmanageable). If more than 50 quotes are submitted, only your first 50 will be put to vote (sorry).
There's a list of existing quotes (already on the site) here which has just been updated.
After a week or so, we'll draw up a short-list and vote the best quotes onto the site.

N.B. All quotes submitted since the end of the last competition will automatically be included in the voting this time around (everything up until the post immediately preceding this one), so no need to re-submit them as it will lead to duplicates and create extra work filtering them out. Please do not modify existing posts prior to this date as submissions have already been collected. If you have any more quotes to add, please create a new post.

80 chars is the limit as it makes them easily readable and so they fit in the header across different screen sizes (if the artist name is short, sometimes slightly longer ones are allowed).

Culling = delete (they were flooding the thread before) (longstanding competition rule is 50 suggestions per user for each round to prevent flooding and keep things fair)
