If your disks are scratched to the point the aluminum is damaged, you are screwed. That is why scratches on the top (label-side) of disks can be worse than on the bottom. The plastic is thinner on top.

There are several scratch repair kits on the market. I've never used them, so I don't know how well they work.

Toothpaste isn't supposed to fill in the scratches, it is supposed to reduce the plastic around the scratch, making is shallower. This is why baking soda too paste is recommended. Again, I don't know how well this works.

Probably, since most people are concerned. It just haven't succeeded for me. Do you know if there's any particular way the toothpaste should be smeared, or if there's a particular way that you need to treat your disc like during the process?

Take them to a record store, costs around €2 per CD for repairs and much more for records 😐

Today, I was digging in the deep end of my physical collection, in order to pick up what I haven't heard in ages. Pleasant surprises and memories here and there, but not overly well. Some of my records have scratches, which makes them simply unlistenable.

Is there any possible way to regain a scratched disc? The only one I know of is to smear your disc with toothpaste, but for some reason it never works for me. Are you supposed to do it in a certain way?
