VU & N certainly didn't deserve to be here (iconic cover, but really, one of the best ever?) but UP did.

I don't think the music has anything to do with finding meaning in the cover. I like what I like, however strange it may seem. I think The White Album's cover is one of the best ever (I don't know why, I just do), but I don't like the VU cover that much, even if both albums are faves. Similarly, I don't like WL/WH's cover. My two fave Dylan albums don't have the greatest covers. There are worse albums, and albums that I haven't even heard, that I liked the cover very much of, and maybe even more than some of my faves' covers.

Wow that was so difficult. I have desired Andy Warhol's peelable banana sleeve for many years now. It is amazing and I love the fact that the banana is pink under the skin. But Unknown Pleasures is just so iconic. It is just the best album cover ever. The textured sleeve just makes it all the better. My 18 year old son has a UP t-shirt but even though he likes the Velvet's music, he doesn't WANT an banana t-shirt. This says a lot to me about the long-term visual impact of each cover.
