It's a four-hit album, and frankly those four songs were the only ones I could stand when I listened to it.

Synchronicity II
Every Breath You Take
King of Pain
Wrapped Around Your Finger

everything else sounds like filler to me, just couldn't enjoy it. But these four songs are enough to make it one of the best albums of the 80s anyway - they're that good, and that far above the rest of the album.

I'll go along with this assessment although I feel Zenyatta Mondatta (1980) is just as good.

This one of the first pieces of vinyl I ever owned, and I played the hell out of it. Also, the Police were one of the first bands of my generation that I loved. Say what you want about the Police and Synchronicity, but as far a the 80's mainstream goes, they were one the best and most palatable bands on the radio at the time. So for these reasons, Synchronicity holds a special place in my heart. Over time though, it's diminished in stature for me. The ubiquitousness and ridiculous popularity of Every Breath You Take ruins it a little bit. I still like the title track, Synchronicity II (a moody kick ass rocker with dark lyrics), King of Pain (fantastic lyrics on that one), and Miss Gradenko. I think the debut album of theirs might be better though and and Zenyatta Mondatta as well. I think mainstream radio and MTV might have ruined this one though. I really don't need to hear Every Breath You Take ever again. 🧱

Don't care too much about Every Breath You Take personally... The rest of the album... I did apparently listen once (considering I rated it) but I don't seem to remember much of it.. The last two tracks got high ratings from me, so I guess they're my favourites... (now that I'm thinking of it, I do remember the chorus to Wrapped Around Your Finger. That song is indeed a good one)

Best Track: King of Pain 🙄
This album belongs to among the "very much listened."
Not anymore listen to it, but the album as a good work of a linkage has been preserved. Somehow I feel that the Police's valuation of a 'Great Band' has fallen.
Guitarist, A. Summers for a brief time in 1968, he was a member, then known as Eric Burdon and the Animals. ❗

I like hairymarx's take on this. It makes me think this would have been Patrick Bateman's favorite Police record.

Boooring album apart from Every Breath You Take and Miss Gradenko. Mother is interesting but after a while just starts to grate. That song about dinosaurs is one of the lamest I ever heard.

Above average, and nearly very good. The record doesn't sound as good as it should have, though, and in the end it overall seems like a record which had potential, and was sorta interesting, sorta boring.

The polished production, tepid songs and Can-style syncopated reggae rhythms bores the pants off me. 'Every Breath You Take' is one of their best songs if you like this kind of thing and exemplifies the shift away from the bands punk-new wave roots to the more sugar-sweet MOR slickness of Sting's solo work.
The pseudo-soul sentimentality of the vocals allied to the staleness of the production, reminds me of a cross between Phil Collins and Rod Stewart on a good day.

Sting was not a happy camper during this album. But that made for some brilliant songwriting.
