The album that immidietly came to mind was Is This It, especially "Last Nigt". I would also say Discovery by Daft Punk and It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back. That album really soundtracked a two year stretch during that 13/14 year old period where I became more aware of the world around and started seeing the BS around me. Public Enemy's politics will also be a good intro to music with an actual agenda and music that has real perspective, something that most pop music lacks. It's also, you know, one if the best, if not the best, rap albums ever

And unless you're saying something along the lines of "Beefheart is much better than Limp Bizkit/Limp Bizkit is much worse than Beefheart", having the words Beefheart and Limp Bizkit in the same sentence is blasphemous.

Beefheart is much better than Limp Bizkit. However, Trout Mask Replica is not.

Did Joyce and Beefheart have children in mind when they created their works? Probably not. But perhaps in their efforts to create something startlingly new, they tapped into some of the imagination they all but lost since childhood.

Yes. Safe as Milk and Doc at the Radar Station. Only a couple times each, though.
