Hey all!

TIL, thank you! I'm mainly thinking of soccer/football, where Ireland & Northern Ireland compete separately (e.g. in Euros/World Cup). Makes sense about cross-border for most sports and of course non-sports things also.

I’m assuming that you’re referring to the “what album are you playing” forum romanelli. I agree a great source of recs and I’ve started adding more notes about each album that I post on there beyond just the artwork and link. Hoping that generates a bit more discussion about what is being played

Yep, and loving it. Many sports which I’d never paid attention too, suddenly I’m engrossed.

The rowing was great, some superb races and the climbing is mental. How do you scale a vertical wall that quickly! Nuts.

Trying to watch as much as I can! NBC's coverage in the US is frustrating though, so I often resort to watching highlights online of sports that I can't watch live (including Skateboarding, Surfing, and Breakdancing which I was looking forward to). Considering how strong the USA is in general at the Olympics, it's a huge shame how piss-poor the exclusive broadcast rights are and how they manage to fail to draw up interest.

Mostly been watching soccer and basketball, the latter of which is just neat as an American to see an NBA all-star team perform so well together.

Generally I don't watch a ton of gymnastics, but I did see the men's pommel horse and that Rhys McClenaghan is quite impressive! I didn't realize he's from Northern Ireland. Do Northern Irish athletes have the option to compete under the Irish or the UK flag? (like Puerto Ricans in the US who often compete under the Puerto Rican flag but sometimes compete under the US flag particularly in team sports).

I have to say that overall, Paris is putting on an amazing show: fencing at the Grand Palais, 3x3 basketball and skateboarding at the Place de la Concorde, equestrian at Versailles, the marathon runs from downtown Paris to Versailles and back, and of course beach volleyball right next to the Eiffel Tower! The spectacle is wonderful, I can't imagine Los Angeles in 2028 putting on anywhere near as good of a show as this. Although I can't help but feel that it might suck to be a Parisian right now with all the road closures and millions of tourists 🤣

Thanks, it is helpful to hear about the experiences of other music lovers. I'm thinking about buying 1 or 2 records without getting a record player and seeing how that goes.

Between us, my wife and I own around 7,500 albums either vinyl (around two thirds of the total), the rest being either CD’s or tapes. I had a thing for tapes in the early 80’s. Short lived but I have around 150.

Contrary to a comment earlier in this thread about the inconvenience, I love the ritual of finding the album on the racks, taking it out of the sleeve, placing it on the turntable etc. it gives me a real sense of satisfaction. I don’t generally buy albums on line either. The joy that you get in finding an album you have been looking for for years in the back of a record shop is such a joy.

Space can be an issue but we are in our forever home and are fortunate enough to be able to have a room solely dedicated to music but I realise that is by far the exception.

Yeah that's a good point. I can't image being in a forever home anytime in the foreseeable future. I'd say there are only like 60 - 70 I'd really want to own physically but then who knows, maybe I'd get addicted.
