I made a thread similar to this a month or two ago. I agree wholeheartedly. The album is grossly overrated and not really even "good" in my opinion. And I love The Beatles.

It's got some really good songs, though.
Edit: Between the two VEE JAY versions Capitol released 'Meet The Beatles' 1964-01-20, ten days after VEE JAY and the line under the 'Meet The Beatles' title became false.

Meet the Beatles is one of the few vinyl albums I own šŸ˜ Regrettably, the album cover is pretty badly treated - written on by my aunt, and otherwise old and torn. Not sure if it's an original release, but it's in mono so it's a good bet that it is.

But out of the Beatles albums, I actually like A Hard Day's Night the best- although Revolver is pretty much on the same level, even though AHDN is nothing but love songs.

Mostly, but You Can't Do That isn't a song you'd want to sing to someone you're trying to woo. I'll Cry Instead isn't very romantic either. In both songs, the protagonist (presumably John) is keeping up kind of a macho front. In You Can't Do That, he's trying to control his lover by threatening her with abandonment should she even think of cheating on him (an early, less violent version of Run for your Life) and in I'll Cry Instead, he says he want to hurt the lover that hurt him and then later he threatens to break a bunch of nameless girl's hearts just to show the one that has spurned him that he's capable of hurting her as well--not exactly romantic fare.

I've always felt The Beatles (aka The White Album) had some wheat hidden amongst the chaff. I mean, I like Ob-la-di-ob-la-da and Rocky Raccoon, but would I call them great songs? No. Not at all.

Top songs on this one:
Dear Prudence
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Happiness Is A Warm Gun
Martha My Dear
I'm So Tired
Blackbird
I Will
Julia
Mother Nature's Son
Sexy Sadie
Helter Skelter
Long, Long, Long
Savoy Truffle
Cry Baby Cry

I could lose the rest and not care. Well, okay, I like the other two I mentioned plus Bungalow Bill, but otherwise...

But out of the Beatles albums, I actually like A Hard Day's Night the best- although Revolver is pretty much on the same level, even though AHDN is nothing but love songs. I've been listening to Please Please Me a lot too, and it's starting to grow on me...

šŸ' A Hard Days Night is brilliant, and I think John especially shines as a composer and as a singer on that album. Please Please Me is also the Beatles at their best as an actual performing band. They whacked that one out on just one afternoon. I know some of the lyrics are banal but some of the John sung songs are delivered with great feeling and integrity. Paul is brilliant as a singer and composer on revolver though. Here there and Everywhere is a highlight as far as singing is concerned.

But as for the White Album, the best songs in my opinion are:
1. While My Guitar Gently Weeps
2. Happiniess is a warm gun
3. Blackbird
4. I'm so tired
5. Long, Long, Long
6. Ob la di, Ob la da
7. Dear Prudence

I agree and vacillate on whether it should be The Beatles #2 or #3 album:

1.	Revolver-1966
2.	The Beatles ("White Album")-1968
3.	Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band-1967
4.	Abbey Road-1969
5.	Rubber Soul-1965
6.	A Hard Day's Night-1964
7.	Let It Be-1970
8.	Please Please Me/Introducingā€¦The Beatles-1963
9.	Help!-1965
10.	Magical Mystery Tour-1967

Mmm...I still think that the beatles' best albums are:
1. Sgt. Peppers
2. Abbey Road
3. Revolver
4. White Album
5. Beatles for Sale

With everything that's been said, the White Album is still an enjoyable listen and a good album.

John himself rated this as their very best Album, so that must count for something, and there is no doubt that it is a great ecclectic mix, but give me the 3 previous Beatles albums anyday of the week.
I miss the John-Paul collaborations of the earlier albums. Individually they were great, but I think the sum of the whole was greater than the parts. The dissolution in the bands unity results in the bittiness of teh album, like scraps of songs collected and put together (just as what happened on Abbey Road). There are also too many conflicting themes. Revolver by contrast points forward, Pepper may point to a pschadelic never-never world, but at least its focused. In contrast everyone is just doing what they want on the White Albums.

Saying that its still a fantastic listening experience. I dont care how old it is

I like these older albums better:

Revolver-The Beatles
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band-The Beatles

The White Album is a close third.

I now rank the White Album better than Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band-The Beatles. They are all great.

One word sums up the White Album: eclectic

Every style and type of Beatles song is on this album. In fact it's almost like a historical almanac of musical styles the Beatles delved in. That's why it's rated so highly. There are a lot of great songs, but also a fair amount of filler on it. The thing is, Revolver is also really eclectic, but much more cohesive and concise and better from start to finish, hence why it's a better album imo.
