Great season for post-rock and folk. I agree with what's been said.

Modest Mouse too. (Though they'd be equally suited to winter.)

But if you want something with more energy, certain jazz albums have a bustling autumnal charm.

I completely agree, almost all of my favourite albums have an autumnal tone. My memories of them often involve listening to them during Autumn too. Funny.

Yep, I totally agree. Let's see. I would include anything by Nick Drake or Elliott Smith. Death Cab was mentioned and used to be a go to autumn band for me. The National sound good during the fall... Tom Waits...Simon and Garfunkel, shown above, definitely. I might think of more later. Autumn might be my favorite music listening season, if that makes any sense.

I'd say Automatic for the People is autumnal, says so on the Allmusic page too. 😄

Really any album that sounds reflective with a harsh edge to it could be considered autumnal I think, which is why folk music is often associated with it.

Autumn is probably the lamest season. There are a few albums that you hypothetically could attribute autumn-like qualities to, but they are almost always suited to another season better.

After much consideration, I'd say Darkness on the Edge of Town. And After the Gold Rush.

Tindersticks or Red House Painters ? Though some of their albums creep into Winter...

Slowcore as a genre fits those wet and grey afternoons.
