I ain't got a problem with them. They don't have any real power.

plus If I had to pick between looking up to The Queen and David Cameron i'd pick the Queen in a heartbeat.

My point being that it is all very well being ideologically opposed to our monarchy but it's stupid to argue money.

I'm indifferent, but pretty content as we are.

Which is a damn sight more than the £150million it costs to maintain...

Not to mention that if were to replace the royalty with an elected head of state then the cost would be very similar.

We in Canada get the luxury of having the British monarchy without paying a cent for it, hehe.

silly, silly

the monarchy - now nothing more than unqualified, unelected diplomats - costs the tax-paying public over £150m each year.. before you factor in all the perks and luxuries.. holidays to africa, helicopter trips from one town to a neighbouring one etc

in a country about the size of california, they own castles and palaces all over the place, land as far as the eye can see.. whilst others sleep on benches and in doorways

anyone who believes in the monarchy and any of their childish medals is a cyclops.. jimmy page and ray davies have given us more than any member of the 'royal' family as far as i'm concerned

For God and the Empire, on 17 March 2004 Raymond Douglas Davies CBE received the Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire rank from Queen Elizabeth II for "Services to Music." It is about time for Ray Davies to be lifted to the next level (KBE or GBE) and earning the title Sir Raymond! God save The Kinks.

Thought someone might be interested. Four years after Jimmy Page was awarded the OBE, Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant received the CBE from Prince Charles, Here.

Congratulations! 😎
