New Train by Paul Pena!

It was recorded in 1973 but not released until 2000 but it's amazing. Jerry Garcia plays guitar on a few songs and it has the original version of "Jet Airliner" which became a hit for Steve Miller a few years after someone gave him an unreleased copy of Pena's version.

They've only got one album, called "My Head Is an Animal". It's pretty good. They have quite a bit of promise, methinks.

Got home with this waiting for me. Like I said before, I fell in love with this band when I heard "The Littlest Birds", but I hadn't gotten to hear too much else...so this was a real treat. This is a great sounding album!

Again, though...the one flaw I would really find with this is that it gets very snoozy at times. It's pretty, and that's nice, but I also wish that it would move me more. Still, I'm really glad to have this, and my love for this band has been confirmed in more than just one song. Thanks for getting me to add this to my collection!

I'd never heard of A Fine Frenzy until you posted this, so thank you for turning me on to something completely new to me. The next three songs get so slow that I think she may have fallen asleep, and when she does pick things back up, it sounds like a different album (and maybe a bit like Arcade Fire). By "Dance Of The Grey Whales", I'm feeling let down. Her guitar is gone, and she's turned into an almost Tori Amos kind of character (without the anger, but most of the piano). But then, "It's Alive" pulls me back in. It's not the same as it was at the beginning of the album, but the songwriting is there again, and the melodies are strong.

Overall, I like this...although I do wish it were more consistent. My understanding is that the album is a continuous story. It is a bit long, and I wish the middle seven songs were as strong as the first 3 and the last 3. But, this is based on a single listen...I may find hidden treasures on further review!

I know it's just an Ed Droste demo tape pretty much, but it still interests me.
