I've been listening to this off and on the past week; it's pretty good. It slowly loses momentum towards the end, but I wouldn't say there's a weak track on it. The bass and bass drum sounded weirdly mixed on first listen, almost too hushed, but I grew to like it; the two do add tremendous body to the songs. I like it, but the drums also sound like they're lagging behind like a giddy slowcore song; your drummer might just be really obsessed with downbeats and its giving me some aural illusion or something. +1 for the mandolin in a few songs.

I dig the album cover too. I don't always imagine colors when I listen to music, but I did imagine pastels when listening to this (maybe because of the Cyndi Lauper thing). +1 for the texture too (the beige part). Such tasteful thickness... my god is that a watermark

My only advice to you for future projects is to focus more on the lyrics. Indie pop bands like Modest Mouse, Pavement, and Built to Spill got where they are for their poignant lyrics, not necessarily their music. If you want to compete with the thousands of other indie pop bands out there that are also vying for listeners, then you'll have to step up your lyrics. That said, they're not bad at all; it doesn't sound like you all just threw them together. Congrats on a great album.

Good to see some love for Leaking Oil, it's one of mine and I always thought it was one of the weakest on the album. Thanks for your thoughts!

Huge thanks for all the response! I'll be sharing it with the band - it's really great to see the album stands as it's own and doesn't come across just as something a small local band put together at some point, and that really means alot.

It's interesting that the lyrics have been brought up and I think it's definitely something we need to work on. Most of these are songs we've written over a three year period of actually starting song writing (Snow's No Longer Snow being the first song we ever wrote and Open Up My Window being written a month before the recording). I'm the primary lyricist of the band and I think I've developed much more over the years as I've tried to make the songs a statement rather than just sound cool. I actually rewrote the lyrics to Change Me very soon before the recording, so it's interesting to see that it made the most impact. Hopefully our future lyrics will feel like more like we had something to say 😁

Listened. First I should congratulate the quality of production of the album recorded "in a friend's spare room". As a first impression I can tell that I thought you're one of those bands who can improve their overall sound and songwriting with each album so I really think you have the potential for the thing you're doing. The vocals are to my taste, especially the female vocalist has a nice folk-like singing technique, maybe you want to make her the lead vocalist for the next album. The difference between her and the other two vocalists (including you) is obvious in "Leaking Oil" but I like other two vocalist's timbre. I can't say that I think lyrics are overall brilliant, but certainly there are brilliant sparks here and there ("Change Me (For Summer Is Here)" is especially the apex of lyrics and "Snow Is No Longer Snow" is pretty good) and I think you've made a pretty good use of acoustic guitar. I really liked the opening track and title track and since you suggested that we say which songs we didn't like I should say that I didn't like "Our Song" and "Staring at Clouds" that much, but that is not to say your album is like a sine function; pretty decent and consistent album. Congratulations and thank you for sharing. �'�
(And also excuse me that I cannot buy it, I would love to but there are sanctions on this shitty country's banking system (now the country is like there are 70 million people stranded and isolated on an island) so I cannot use the services with which one can pay. Really sorry 🧱 )

Personally, I really like it. Somewhere around an 80 - 85/100 in my book. I can't say I am in love with the lyrics, but the music is amazing. My favorite parts are usually when the male(I assume that's you) is singing. Very good placement of voice too.

REVIEW

First things first, congratulations on the release of the album. A lot of hard work and dedication seems to have gone into the production of Nowhere.

From the initial track, I had to switch my brain off from the current industrial/ambient/glitch stuff I have been listening to and listen to lyrics and pop/rock structure pieces. Cracks In The Concrete and We Will Try are teeming with indie pop mentalities with a hint of Finn Brothers creeping in. The rest of the album wavers for me between the strength of the songs. The weakest on the album seems to be All On Your Own, which links to an Arcade Fire-type quality but lacks the polish to really soar.

The digital booklet with the purchase is great and fits the music well. All lyrics included and I think lyrically, Change Me is probably my favourite. "The world revolves around the sound."

Overall, I feel like the influences are clear but the direction of the band is not. Ebbs and flows too much at times, when I feel a song really resonates with me and then some fall flat. Gallant effort.

70/100 - sits between Sonik Kicks & Flaming Lips And Heady Fwends for 2012 albums.

I designed the cover as a mickey take originally, 'cause our drummer said he wanted something realistic. After I made it, it turned out everyone liked it.

We've started playing live a lot more than we used to, and just the other night we got a small gig at a pub that was only us playing, not being part of a larger gig, and it actually went down really well.

Technically bass, but that's more of a thing to do live - I've never been very good. Otherwise it's keyboards as well as backing vocals (lead in some songs).
