Engelland is Shane O'Brien all over again. Maybe without the love of The Roxy. Brutal signing.

Free agent frenzy... Huge stupidity as usual.

Let's do a roll call of the overpaid contracts:

Dave Bolland - 5 years @ $5.5 million a year. An injury-prone third line centre.

Brian Gionta - 3 years @ $4.1 million a year. He was great - in 1998.

Benoit Poulliot - 5 years @ $4 million a year. How many teams has he played for?

Leo Komarov - 4 years @ $2.9 million. A KHL agitator.

...but by far the worst, and a lock for a buyout in a year or two:

Brooks Orpik - 5 years @ $5.5 million a year. 😲 Slow. Big. Stupid. Basically Hodor on skates. What the hell was Washington thinking?

Ugh... Here comes another lockout.

Meh my thoughts on him are pretty much the same as yours. He's good but I don't think he's a top line guy. Or at least he's not a driver, which is probably what the oilers would expect him to be. Honestly if I'm them id be looking at what it would take to pry byfuglien out of Winnipeg, because he gets tons of flack and could come cheap (but is also a top pairing guy). Or Ehrhoff who is on a super sweet contract. Coburn would be a decent 2nd line dman but like you say they'll over pay. I'd rather them just sign someone like Nikita Nikitin or Mark Fayne who could probably do a similar role for less cost. Too bad people started figuring out Stralman is very good otherwise id say they should've signed him for cheap. Now it looks like he'll get paid. But I mean if they go into the season with something like

Petry-Ehrhoff(Buff, Stralman)
Marincin-Nikitin(Coburn, Fayne)
Ference-J.Schultz

That would be miles better than this years crop.

Any thoughts on the Coburn rumours? As a Flyers fan, I've found him to be a solid C+ d-man. Surely the perfect guy for the Oilers to give up too much for.

Vancouver is actually another team I could see making some dumb moves (or at least dismantling their roster). As much as I hate them, I do think they were largely unlucky and I could easily see them make playoffs next year, if they don't trade everyone. Like what happened to Burrows?? You can count on Toronto signing someone for stupid money. But now that Gillis is out of job, who will screw up Vancouver? Maybe they should try to lure Lowe away. 😁

i cant wait for the offseason for some reason. I feel like there will be a lot of dumb things happen (sj, winnipeg, toronto possibly trading really good players) and im hoping the oilers are on the other end of it for once.

I don't care who wins either but I enjoyed last night's game. First period it looked like the Rangers were going to run away with it. Kings are tough. Here's hoping it goes seven games with a few OT games in there as well.

As someone who usually roots for the Sharks with a backup of Blackhawks, going Rangers for the pure sake of I'm really done with the Kings right now. Though I'm not sure if I'll actually watch the whole series, might just catch little chunks of games, as I'm really not huge on either of them, but the Rangers look good in comparisson.
