Actually I bought the 2009 box set on a whim when it came out beacuse I didn't own any of the albums at the time. 😲

Turned out to be one of the better investments I've made in my collection. It was nice to get the whole thing at once.

Actually, Past Masters is part of the 2009 release. Which simply looks like a way to try and get everyone who already has the catalog (simplified in the 80's to its current format) to go out and buy it again.

Because The Beatles don't already sell enough albums?

No... it is just easier to keep track of US/UK releases, and what exactly constitutes a Beatles album, especially in the early days... for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beatles_discography
