My personal chart only contains my favorites, but I rank them in the order of what I consider to be the greatest (meaning, I rank them based on how viable I believe they were in terms of contributing to the art form that we call music).

So to answer your question...I guess both...?

For example, I recognize that the Beatles are great in terms of what they contributed to the art form, but I personally have never really been a huge fan of their music, which is why they don't appear on my chart at all, although I do recognize their greatness, and influence within the art form.

Them not being on my chart doesn't mean I don't consider them great artists. 😄

Classics are classics because a lot of people like them. Nothing wrong with having classics on your list because you like them.

Now, if you "like" them because you feel you should, then something's wrong.

I don't feel guilty since I have "classics" in my charts which are all legitimate.

If everybody did this properly and stopped paying lip service to albums they perceive to be 'great' but don't personally love, maybe the overall chart would look a little different.

Yikes. I can see why. The Beatles are quite clearly not objectively the best band ever.

Here is the answer:

"Abbey Road" is the greatest album ever, "Dark Side of the Moon" is the 2nd greatest album ever, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" is the 3rd greatest album ever, "The Resistance" is the 18th greatest album ever, etc..

Stop lying. Everybody knows the 18th greatest album ever is "Peliculas - La Maquina de Hacer Pajaros".
