Currently I don't have notes on my charts. However, I do enjoy reading when others put notes on there. I'm working on an extensive overhaul of my chart so perhaps I will add notes at that time. Like others I have struggled with the balance of how personal to make them and how much of myself to put out there.

I love when a user's comments show how a chosen album affects them personally. To some it may seem self-indulgent, but in all honesty that seems like the whole point... the best charts portray a distinct personality IMO. However, whatever they choose to do is just fine, be it favorite tracks or when they first listened or "haters gonna hate" (he-he) or whatnot. I like your comments a lot too, MNS, especially the ambitious task of ranking the songs :).

an_outlaw is right. I have already made comments for the albums in my charts, well, some of them. So it's more a question of what style I should continue in. The personal ones seem to be the most popular which I agree with, but there's also a limit to how personal they should be, I think. A comment like "I have no idea what this is, it's not music, nor is it magic. It's something beyond magic!" could definitely evoke my interest in an album, but it doesn't say much about what kind of album/music it is. On the other hand can comments like "Sgt' Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band was a landmark in the history of pop/rock and epitomized the spirit and culture of summer of love..." also be a bit tiresome, especially if there has already been made thousands of reviews about the album. For me, it works best when it's the right balance between informative and entertaining, but of course people can make all kinds of notes they want. Even notes only for fun are way better than no notes in my opinion. It's all about maintaining the reader's interest if you ask me.

Mine are usually about the qualities of the album itself, rather than what I was doing when I discovered it, etc. But at the same time, I guess they're about my personal experience of the album, and I'm just assuming others will have a similar experience.

Subjective notes are my favorite. I mean these charts are all personal opinion anyway, and it's cool to see what kind of impact the albums have had on the person. I'm not a terrific writer but I still like to always jot down a little thing saying what I love about the album and why I put it where I did. I feel like it makes the list more personal and more interesting to the person going through it.

Just HAVING notes gives so much more to the album. But I absolutely prefer subjective and personal notes. Myself, I write whatver comes ino my mind - both personal and funny facts about the album. Then I add a quote and the best songs. I like the way, Mother Nature's Son ranks all the tracks on a album. That's impressive.

I used to have personal little review-type things in the notes section. Then it bugged me that I'd never be bothered to do that for every album, so I switched to negative RYM reviews, which I find fucking hilarious. I don't really give a shit what other people think about them. I like to utilise the notes sections in different ways depending on the nature of the chart (my BAWP chart being a highly exaggerated version of the hip-hop critic in me; my dubstep chart featuring more traditional reviews or personal paragraphs on the albums; my 2013 chart containing brief notes on the style of the album and what artists it reminds me of in order so that people viewing the chart can find something that might appeal to them). But the RYM comments are without doubt my favourite. It still makes me laugh when I look through my chart and see that somebody's review of Curtis Mayfield's solo debut was "he sounds like the old pervert from family guy and i don't like songs about racism".

i really prefer notes of any kind. one of my favorite aspects of music discussion is reading why people love the music they do.

it's one of the first things i look for in a chart really and by far the most interesting characteristic. i confess to not really paying attention to charts that don't have comments. part of the reason its taking me a while to do a chart is that i want to write worthwhile stuff for each entry

Im planning on actually putting an effort in and re-doing my top 100. I will definitely do notes for at least the first 50. probably going to do a mix of all these styles.

Im also planning on doing video responses to some of the albums.
