No use for it whatsoever. Other than some bluegrass, which actually has great musicianship. I can hang with a little Glen Campbell, Chet Atkins, or even a little Jerry Reed, but the vast majority of Country is so mind-numbingly simple as to be intolerable.

JMan never intentionally trolled. He was more known for overreacting, and his odd way of approaching records.

^^^ To me it is all comes down to personal taste. The good thing about country is that more than just one subject is sung about, not to mention there being so many different voices now. 😄 😄 😄

God bless you always!!! 😄 😄 😄

Something like this.

Thanks Pa. Its a work in progress, eventually i would like to limit the number of artists with 2 or more records, so that i can open up some room for some more of the great female acts that country music has (Emmylou) and maybe a couple more current albums that BEAers can explore.

I'm curious what some of the vinyl albums your dad brought you were.

I like I Came Here to Live, along with a couple others on that album, but Honky Tonk Badonkadonk was the one that got the radio play. And now that is the type of song the industry wants release.

I didnt mean to say that the artist i mentioned are incapable of putting out good music. I really have no business criticizing the artists at all. They, for the most part, are doing exactly what the labels tell them to do. It's actually really sad that people with songwriting ability and vocal ability are pigeon-held into producing such waste.

Fortunately there are enough independent talents singing country music today that the major label record companies have much less of a influence on what I listen to.

God bless you too Holly. Hopefully you consider taking a look at some of my country recommendations. I really think there is some stuff out there that you would enjoy.

I guess i disagree with the premise of this question (Has it grown on me). I think Country music is simultaneously at an all time low and on on the verge of being close to the best its ever been. I have listened to country music my entire life, really starting with the late 80s early 90s and i started retreating from the mainstream probably early in the 2000s.

I didn't retreat because i thought it was too "poppy" which it was, or because like everything else in that era of music, it mattered more what the singers looked like on TV than they sounded on the radio. Now I think the most popular of it caters itself to the broadest possible demographic and lowest common denominator, which is a great way to make money unfortunately.

Artists like Trace Adkins, Toby Keith, even Tim McGraw used to release records of depth and emotion. Even if some of it was the i lost my wife/dog/car/etc, it had the ability to strike a personal cord in a way that you felt it.

Now its Honky tonk badonkadonks and red solo cups and i cant tell if they have any desire to write music that affects anyone any more.

I encourage you go to My Country Chart

or my 2014 chart in my signature which as some really good country.

This era (Randy Travis, Alan Jackson, early Kenny Chesney and Brad Paisley) really is great to listen to, but the last 5 years have been a lot different. Pop-country post 2009 has pushed cheesy to an all new level, but the 70 or so years before that more than make up for it.

I think the issue is that much of the new music that is labeled as country now is just out of date pop music about drinking and driving pickup trucks, while many things that are more true to the roots of the genre are no longer identified as country but rather something like Americana, Appalachian folk, alt-country, etc.

Like Neko Case's first few countries are far more classic country than anything you'll see on CMT or whatever.

yep, she's a good example... i quite enjoy Neko Case's music, plus i enjoy her twitter feed 😄

Tarnation was probably my first introduction to alt-country, and i do return to their first couple albums pretty regularly.

Update: in fact, i think i'll go listen to Gentle Creatures right now 😄
