It's all there, in the info for each separate song on Bandcamp. Help came from my friends Bangatang and Dock Mini (both really great electronic/hip-hop producers), as well as from other friends, including MelverneArkady (who is an infrequent user of this site, and responsible for one of my favourite charts). But yeah, it's all there on the site.

This, DBZ's review makes me really want to hear it, but I have a lot on my plate at the moment. I will listen though, it sounds amazing.

Dude you are some kind of talented. I love the juxtaposition of like acoustic indie pop and hip-hop, and your lyrics are wonderfully witty. I think the comparisons I've been seeing to Belle & Sebastian and Morrissey are more than appropriate. Also your voice is pretty great and your rap skills undeniable. Man I wish I could write songs like you. This is really impressive

Man, you have to cover Dream Weaver by Gary Wright à la you with adapted lyrics. You know such as ...

"Dream Weaver I believe you can take me through the night"
change to become
"Neil Weaver tequila can take you through the night:
(Come on, who will pay me a round)

Your audience will love it and you may get a few free drinks extra (or get the ladies to throw their panties - just don't invite your mom no matter how supportive she is of you LOL). Build a mystic around your live act man, be outrageous, be like Freddy Mercury, make sure they have a good time and not forget you. The quality of your repertoire will do the rest.

Funny how all of these examples come from early on in their career.
If the writing comes to you naturally that way just let it come. Nothing a little wordsmithing can't change later. Then again, if ever it feels like betraying yourself, then fuck it. Better witty than sold out.

I thought I would merely skimmed it but it kept me hooked cover to cover which is what it takes to make it to my charts.

Skipped the Hip-hop tracks but as you probably know by now that is a no go for me. Otherwise not a single weak tracks and potentially already a few singles. If you say you are still composing I would definitely insist you not give up. You definitely have something good there. Talent for sure. Impatience is a sign of ambition but patience and impatience must co-mingle in one life's path. That is the way of the Tao.

I would tone down the self-depreciation a little. You would be surprised how it would be easy to just switch a few lines and then the same song becomes cheery because your singing and playing is good and really makes one feel happy. Most contemporary singers depress me with their voice no matter what they sing but you make me feel good not matter the lyrics, I am sure you would have that effect on others than me. Then again, if you like'em that way just forget what I said. Today's music would be nowhere near where it is without self-deprecating songs (e.g. Looser by Beck, I'm a looser by the Beatles, Creep by many bands .... the list goes on and on).

I just love the Monster Truck line, "While I wait in line I could be riding monster trucks", even in the worst jail or most boring of daily circumstances a free mind roams. Hilarious and very witty I dare say.

Brilliant man, keep up the good work. Looking forward to hear some more.

Well thank you very much! I will take on board what you said with regards toning down the self-deprecating element; it comes naturally to me to write that way, but it would be good to get out of my comfort zone. I'll continue to keep BEA posted as and when I record new stuff. Thanks for such a glowing and thorough review, and glad you enjoyed it.

Ruel Fox, a tricky right winger who played for Norwich, Newcastle, Tottenham and, eventually, my beloved West Brom. Was something of a cult figure in English football throughout the mid to late '90s.

And thanks for listening!
Yeah, I hear that a lot whenever I play live. It tends to be Billy Bragg, Robert Smith, "that guy from Dexy's", occasionally Morrissey ( 😕 ).

Yeah, Orange Juice are a major influence, so thank you!
Maybe it is my music head but I cannot get into the hip-hop/rap tracks. Might be missing something.

A nice compendium of your musical talents. I guess as an album it probably needs cohesion but as you said earlier, maybe that's the charm of it.

Yeah, I understand the hip-hop tracks wouldn't be to certain tastes, but I thought I'd stick them in there anyway. It's more of a portfolio than an cohesive album, although it's sequenced the way it is as a conscious homage to sprawling, all-over-the-shop albums like The White Album or Wowee Zowee. Thanks for the comment.

pearljammer13 wrote:

Really enjoyed it. Love the acoustic flavor, and even though I'm not the biggest hip hop fan when you do rap the skills are undeniable. The accent is cool too, kind of gives it a small Belle And Sebastian resemblance on the acoustic tunes (at least that's what I thought).

Favorite songs: Juicy, Amongst The Rockpools, Moving Down The Line.

As with Orange Juice, Belle & Seb are another major influence, so that's really nice to hear.

I just finished listeing and that last song was a strong emotional blow. I don't know what to tell but that you have a lot of talent. I knew that this is just a (maybe random) collection of songs so I listened to every song kinda separately and I enjoyed many of them: Back in the Day, The Lonesome Death of Omar Little, Juicy. I just wish there was longer rap songs. Good luck bro and I hope we see more of this. though that's a silly thing to say really. don't know.

Thanks for the comments. I'm getting to grips with (fairly rudimentary) recording software at the moment, and I'm always writing, so there will be various experiments popping up here and there in the new future. I'll shamelessly self-promote on BEA as and when I upload new stuff anyway.

One listen-through so far and I am enjoying a few tracks, namely some previously released on The Public EP. Maybe it is my music head but I cannot get into the hip-hop/rap tracks. Might be missing something.

A nice compendium of your musical talents. I guess as an album it probably needs cohesion but as you said earlier, maybe that's the charm of it.

I'll listen to it tonight, also the self-deprecating nature of the album title is brilliant. I would name an album that if you hadn't thought of it first
