John Lennon, only because I personally appreciate his penchant for the alternative and subversive to McCartney's pop sensibility.

I wouldn't like to say who the most 'important' member was. What metric are we even using?

George Martin is my favorite Beatle... hehe. I think some of the "masterpieces" that The Beatles put together relied heavily on him.

Having said that it totally was a synergy thing because George Martin's compositions on Yellow Submarine are kind of boring, but so is a lot of post-Beatle stuff by "the greatest songwriters of all time". 🙄

I kid with that cause while I almost agree with that, it is a bit too black and white and peeps too excited about it can totally get carried away with their superlatives.

There is no doubt that John was the best song-writer and singer and the one with the vision
There is no doubt that Paul wrote the greatest hits and he's almost as good as Lennon
There is no doubt that George wrote some of the best and most personal, incredible songs and his guitar playing is absolutely stunning.
But without Ringo there to make them relax and stop ripping each other's heads, I think Beatles would have split after A Hard Day's Night.
So my vote's on Ringo! He was the one who kept them together. Without Ringo, no Revolver, no Pepper, no Abbey Road, nothing past AHDN

John is my favoutire Beatle, but Ringo was - in an obscure way - the most important one...

The fifth Beatle is George Martin. You can't deny the influence he had on the songs. No, wait, the fifth Beatle is the Volkswagen Beetle behind George on the cover of Abbey Road 😁

As for Yoko Ono - please don't remind me about her...

                          I vote Paul...

While John had a punk rock edge to him, and George brought amazing qualities to the band, Paul really was the most talented of the group and I like his singing voice the most... I'm Down is a good example of his lead that I really like (the song isn't their best, but it showcases his vocals well).

He seemed like a cool guy, and he wrote Taxman, the song that got me into the Beatles(not my fav Beatles track anymore) and so he gets my vote.

As for fifth beatle, I would say Billy Preston because his work really lifted the game of the songs he was involved in.

As for Yoko, I couldn't really care less. I think with or without Yoko they would have broken up anyways, she just made the break up a bit quicker.

You're wrong. No opinion here, just check your facts- Ringo joined on August 16, 1962 to be precise.
The Ed Sullivan Show happened on February 9, 1964.
How are we defining talent? It's hard to say who had the most or least talent. Except for Ringo. Poor Ringo. He was the least talented. George was instrumentally the most proficient. Both Lennon and McCartney were amazing song-writers, but I do prefer Lennon's vocals. There's just a beautiful psychedelic quality to his voice.

George was great on his guitar (except for improvisation, seems like), no doubt, but I'd say he was no better than what Paul was on bass. He is also great on acoustic guitar, with his unique hybrid finger-picking/strumming skills.

No contest. He may not have written many songs relative to the main two, but the tunes he penned were by far the best on Revolver, Sgt. Pepper, and the White Album. "Something" and "Here Comes the Sun" on Abbey Road are damn good, too. But seriously, "Within You Without You", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Piggies", "Savoy Truffle"? McCartney and Lennon never wrote anything that came even close to those.

As for most important, that's more up for debate. I s'pose Lennon.

C'mon, Piggies and Savoy Truffle are very good songs, but rather towards the bottom half of Beatles songs. The rest you mentioned kick serious ass, though.

EDIT: Oh, and Harrison's "Love You To" is absolutely fantastic, yet I never hear anyone talk about it!
He seemed like a cool guy, and he wrote Taxman, the song that got me into the Beatles(not my fav Beatles track anymore) and so he gets my vote.

Well, he did not write Taxman, George Harrison did, just to make that clear. Great song, by the way.

This poll is impossible for me. Sure, my favourite is John Lennon most of the time. His voice was incredible, he wrote slightly more awesome songs than Paul, and he was the only of the four to release a solo album I find incredible, but without the other guys The Beatles would be pretty crap compared to what we got. John, Paul and George harmonizing together has got to be one of the most thrilling experiences in modern music. In addition they all wrote great songs. Ringo might be the least important member, certainly, but he really is underrated as a drummer. Many good drummers out there seem to think he's some kind of genius, and some actually have trouble replicating his feel and fills, for some reason. Personally I love the guy because he drums in so many different ways, and with so many different sounds throughout The Beatles' career, I can't help but be impressed by him.

In other words, I didn't vote.

I don't think there's any possibility to suggest McCartney was more important than Lennon nor vice-versa. Without those two the Beatles weren't the Beatles. Close behind was Harrison. Don't know that Ringo was all that critical, except as a conduit for the other members in later years when he was the only one they were all speaking to.
