I'm in a fairly small minority, but I take Sammy by a mile. Dave is certainly a more flashy frontman, but that's it -- all flash and no substance. Sammy has a full bodied voice with far more depth. Dave can hit higher notes, but only by screaming--there's no mid range there--he goes straight from his real voice to the scream and can't cover the large bit of ground inbetween. Sammy is equally adept across his entire range.

Dave comes across like a goofy, juvenille caricature. I did like the first album, but it got old pretty quick and they just got worse after that.

Overall I think VH became really boring in the end, but that being said I think they started off pretty damn good. Somewhere in the 80's they got lost in mediocrity

I meant to say they sucked less without David lee Roth.

I prefer Sammy over the suckitude David brought.

I can easily see how people can have something against the music of VH. They were kind of one-trick with DLR, you know? Somgs sounded very much the same. Try and tell me that You Really Got Me, Jamie's Cryin', and Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love (man, they liked apostrophes), Don't have a very similar style. They may have different TEMPOS, but the songs aren't that different.

I can never pick. I think it would be VH1 because it has the most amount good songs on it, but 1984 has my favorite songs by them

Not a huge Van Halen fan, but do own a greatest hits.

They have some good albums, 1984 would be the best IMO but a lot of ones that were boring and really missed the mark. More than happy with my greatest hits though.
