Y'all are alright. I think generalization of something or some taste is a form of stereotyping. Not the worst thing ever, but pretty close. I am not saying I am free from the vice, but I try to avoid it. Like when I hear someone say "Mumford and Sons is the best!" I do have a tendency to automatically say "Hmm... That person probably likes really bland varieties of safe 'folk' pop. They probably have never even heard a Fleet Foxes album, not to mention older greats in music" to myself. But I then restrain myself and realize that that is wrong and they may actually have good taste. And indeed that thought is closely followed by my own realization that maybe they are right, maybe I am stupid not to Love Mumford. It's all opinion and that's all it is or ever will be! So don't be an elitist. Don't be an asshole. Be nice and considerate. And spend your time and effort talking about the music you love, not attacking the music you hate. Take tome educating people on what YOU FEEL is good, not pointing out how typical their tastes are. That's all.

Anyway, I got off topic... Dad rock is a stupid stupid stereotype term.

Sure, there are people like that. But that shouldn't fucking invalidate Deep Purple, they're a good band. They made influential music at the very least. It's fine to not like it, but don't hide behind some bullshit term like it being dadrock as an excuse, just fucking say you don't like it. Otherwise you come off like an elitist, arrogant douche.
