Just a note on this idea of what 'perfect' should be. For me, a perfect album doesn't necessarily have to have a collection of 10/10 songs, that doesn't matter because we are looking at the album as a whole. I think a perfect album is one that you can sit through and enjoy the full thing; it holds your attention completely and while yes, like anything (a book, film ect) there will be some parts that aren't as moving or cathartic as others, but the structure of the album is done so that everything flows perfectly; if you were to take one song out of the mix or reorder them it wouldn't work. That for me at least, is what makes a perfect album as appose to, what makes a perfect set of songs.

A good example of this are Roxy Music's Stranded album, and For Your Pleasure. Stranded has the better individual songs like Mother of Pearl, Song For Europe and Street Life, but the album is scattered, it's not particularly cohesive so its hard to listen to in one go to appreciate it, instead you'd rather just pick the best tracks and listen separately.

On the other hand, For Your Pleasure flows excellently and again there are some excellent tracks and some that are quite average, yet nothing is below par and each song flows well with the next, giving the album that cohesive feel that brings it all together as a whole, rather than simply a collection of unrelated songs.

Perfect albums to me? There are quite a few perfect albums that aren't my favourites - A few Radiohead albums, some Pink Floyd albums, and so on. For perfect albums that are my favourites, pretty much my top ten or twenty.

I mean I can't convince anyone that the music is great, which I THINK it is. But, that's opinion. But In Rainbows uses mathematics to create the perfect peak, and falling point. 61% is the golden ratio, and the album climaxes in Reckoner when in the background it says "In Rainbows."

Because of his voice sounding the way that it sounds, all three albums from my most favorite singer James Otto get a 10 out of 10 from me. 😄 😄 😄

God bless you and him always!!! 😄 😄 😄

Haha, Closer is much better. I suppose I meant Unknown Pleasures should be used as a torture device. His voice is just so much less annoying in Closer, probably because the music is actually interesting.

I think the new album by Deerhunter "Monomania" could be called a (nearly) perfect album in my opinion. Every song is pretty much perfect with the small exception of Nitebike.

But the single was pretty bad, imo.

So an album containing nine tracks can't be perfect? And a double album with ten perfect tracks and huge amounts of filler can be perfect? I guess your definition wasn't made to be taken litterally, but it's not clear.

A double album with some filler and ten perfect tracks on it would obviously not be perfect, but that would certainly be frustrating if such an album ever existed. As for one with 7, 8 or 9 perfect tracks, that's up to your own discretion though for me if there were less than 10 amazing tracks on it, I wouldn't say it was flawless! But as I say, it's a matter of your own personal opinion!

If we're going by the "every song on the album must be perfect" thing, then I really don't think there's any album which I would consider perfect. Even my favorite album has flaws. Maybe that means I'm a harsh critic. Maybe it means I need to find a new favorite album... who knows?

Anyway, I'd say that all the tracks from Black Holes and Revelations by Muse and Illinois by Sufjan Stevens (that is, all the tracks that are longer than 40 seconds) are damn near perfect.
