The change was NOT aimed specifically at Americans. It was aimed at English speaking people. But I don't think anyone should be offended by the truthful statement that a lot of Americans are stupid. Because it's true. And even if Peter Grant DID say Americans (he did not), the reality is that if they had left it as Lead Zeppelin, a lot of Americans (and others) would have called them Leed Zeppelin.

Now...can we please go back to being offended by the great American institutions of homophobia, racism, and treating women as if we still live in the 18th century?

I won't go into your bullshit politics here. But I've been told by Englishmen on more than one occasion and have heard for myself that not all English know how to speak English, and it was the opinion of those Englishmen that the Americans have a firmer grasp of the language. Obviously it's not true of everyone - there's a sizeable chunk of Americans that can barely communicate in English, even when it's their first language. But that doesn't justify the comment TO WHICH I WAS RESPONDING singling out Americans to be demeaned in this way.

And incidentally, who the fuck are you to tell other people what to be offended by? Who made you the all-knowing arbiter of offense? No one, so shut the fuck up.

My apologies to everyone EXCEPT HIM who is offended by my post. I'm in a bad mood today, and being lectured with bullshit by some sniveling puke like this isn't on my slate today. 🤬

Americans may mispronounce names, but many of us are fluent in English (rising hispanic population notwithstanding)...indeed, there are many people in England with less fluency.

Here's one for you. My band is named Plastic Medieval Mannequin. Plastic, because Im a big fan of John Lennon. MediEVAL MANnequin, because it says evil man. whacha think?

Anyway...the story is that the suggestion came from Keith Moon and John Entwistle, who said that a band that would include Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck would go over like a lead balloon. When they changed balloon to zeppelin, they shortened lead to "Led" to keep people from mispronouncing it. From everything I've ever heard, there was no mention of Americans in that thinking...it was English speaking people in general.

The Antlers got their name from a Microphones song.

Now because why the fuck not, the origin of my band's name. We use the word Hype a lot, in situations where it does not even fit. The original reason we did this was because of a reference to Two Best Friends Play, a youtube show (which is fucking awesome), but eventually it just became a part of our common lexicon. So one day, while CaptainFicus and I were playing Persona, chilling, he had the idea to call our band Hype. I said no. About 10 minutes later he suggested it again and I decided I liked it, and it fit our music, so it stuck.

R.E.M. meaning Rapid Eye Movement which is the deep state of sleep you enter when you dream and your eyes flutter in a fast motion.

I remember reading that Michael Stipe was drunkenly flicking randomly through a dictionary in a church late at night when he saw it. They've never been labeled as Rapid Eye Movement, however, so it's more derived from the state of sleep than directly meaning it.

Still a really great name for a band, if I do say so myself.
