The light ray from your eye must travel twice the distance from your eye to the mirror - we'll call this 2d. The speed of light is 2.998e8 meters/second, so the ray travels for (2d/2.998e8) s. If you keep your eyelids closed and then open them, you will see your eye as closed if you open your eyelid in less time than (2d/2.998e8) seconds.

Interesting application? The average distance to the sun is 1.49e11 meters. Since the speed of light is 2.998e8 meters/second, we see the sun as it was (1.49e11/2.998e8) seconds = approximately 8 minutes ago.
