My policy is to treat everyone the same exact way. If I'm being an asshole to one person, I must be an asshole to everyone, or else it'd be unfair. If I'm being nice to someone, I gotta be nice to everyone. Well, there are some exceptions every so often *cough* eggman *cough*

I wrote this a long time ago for a poetry competition, but it escape my mind and I never entered it. I'm not exactly attached to it, so if you hate it, don't be afraid to say why. Just for the sake of putting this thread back on track:

A Man That I Knew

On a glowing square they would declare:
A star, they thought; I thought: how curious,
He is just a man, not a star like
They taught us, which we would see shine
Like gold – though what we saw would be
From a million, trillion years ago.

He was not one when he spent nights drinking
That sickly poison. He shone, maybe,
Under stars above him that spelt his name once with pride,
Not when thousands gathered round and tears they cried
As the blood, not quite red, that crawled down his face
Appeared in every place. No need to worry;
He can be replaced.

Like all stars, though once thought to shine forever,
He implodes, fading, fading,
Star, man, dog.
They say blood is thicker than water,
But he was not a man that I knew.
I never knew him.

The poster didn't 'just' state an opinion. Saying that someone will never be a writer isn't an opinion, that's a personal attack. The 'boomeranged' response was just, I'm not going to have people berating other users unfairly and not respond because I shouldn't be 'spending too much energy forming opinions'.

This has been building up for months. I try not to get involved in conversations like this, but when it happens time and time again, someone has to say something. These 'knee-jerk opinions' only exist because people are so quick to dismiss some users - if a more widely respected user shared their work, it would always be carefully read and considered by everyone, instead people here seem to leach off some users every problems - I don't want that passing me by every day.

edit: this post is irrelevant after the now-notorious post has vanished. Dont make the forums about JMan by making him the object of ridicule, also never feel the need to tailor your attitude to accomodate his strict view of the world. And yet this thread does not and should not turn into the JMan show when neither he nor us wishes to be, so it's time to move on (and I don't mean that in just one sense of the word)
