haha, well the Bruins don't lack leadership so that's no problem. Not backchecking makes me think maybe they'll put him with Bergeron to balance it out, although my first thought was he'll be a top liner. And starting slow is no problem, the B's tend to have a lot of streaky players that always seem to turn it on down the stretch (like Horton who he may be replacing).

Either way I'm very excited to see what this team looks like in the fall. They've made some significant changes considering they were two wins from the Cup.

I dont get the hype over Clarkson. Hes never had 50+ points in one season and is 29 (in fact hes had one season of more than 32 pts). Plus he was significantly worse when not playing with Elias. Sort of the same deal with Bozak. Bozak might be the worst player defensively and Kessel played statistically better when paired with Grabovski anyways. Theyre trying to get a "Carlyle-type" team which is dumb because they were seriously lucky to make playoffs last year as it is. They got rid of two of their top possession players while bringing back their worst. Welcome back to the basement.

In terms of edmonton i dont think they did anything particularily good so far. Getting rid of Horcoff was stupid unless they spent his salary on something useful (they didnt) otherwise its just another roster spot to fill on a team full of holes already. Ference is a bottom 6 d which is what the oilers already have plenty of so i cant see how this helps theyre shitty d as it is. Gordon fills horcoffs spot but hes not as good. So ya theyre pretty much where they were at the end of the season which is not nearly good enough. And apparently they offered Clarkson MORE MONEY than TO. Fuck sakes MacT. Obviously theyres still time but if they get rid of hemsky for nothing like horc than seriously fuck the oilers.

Toronto massively overpaid for Bozak, and while Clarkson is a good fit for their forward lines, a 7 year contract is too long. He'll be past 35 when it's over.

I like Lecavalier on Philly, but hasn't Holmgren learned from the massively long contracts?

Flames have done jack squat. Feaster = worst GM ever.

I like what the Oilers did. Drafted Nurse, traded for Ference... freed up salary by trading Horcoff for a pretty good asset. Addressing their woeful D. MacT is already proving to be better than Lowe.

Yeah this has always been my typical attitude towards hockey during the summer, but this season I got so into the Bruins that I really care about what's going on during the off season. Plus I can't even think about sitting through a Red Sox game right now...I don't know how I used to do it constantly when I was younger. Until the Patriots and Bruins start up again all I really care about is golf majors.

I was very surprised to hear that Alfredsson opted to leave Ottawa and sign with Detroit. And Horton signing for 6 years with Columbus is extremely disappointing, he really seemed to love winning and playing with Lucic and Krejci here in Boston.

Also happy to hear that Corey Schneider is out of Vancouver, although it seems he'll have to wait at least another year for Brodeur to retire and get his shot as a full time starter.

Loui is a great addition. Funny thing is noone in Sweden had heard of him until all of a sudden he showed up on the national team and was fantastic.

Other than that, I don't have a clue. Hockey season is over. I'll read up on what has happened during summer two days before puck drop.

EDIT: Oh yeah. Khabibulin is back in Chicago after Emery left. Not sure how I feel about that. And I think Stalberg just got a shitload of money from Toronto or someone. He was good but nothing to weep over.

EDIT 2: Sure. I guess I care a little. Now on to summer. Oh damn it. More rain.

Yeah I've heard good things about Eriksson, haven't seen much of him though. Apparently he's a great two way player? Sounds like he'll fit the Bruins system much better than Seguin did.

I also just found out in the last couple minutes the B's signed Iginla. 😲 So much for him being one of the most hated NHL players around here.

Once Bruins fans are able to step away from the season, we'll be able to realize how great of a season it really was, cup or no cup. But it's too raw right now to see it that way. It's just frustrating that they gave it away at the end like that, they were way too rattled for a battle tested team. But what makes it a little easier is knowing that they lost to a phenomenal team, a team I really couldn't bring myself to hate. I have a ton of respect for that Chicago team, they have an immense amount of talent and they play the game right. As a New England sports fan, this is one of the easier losses to take. Both Patriots Super Bowl losses were tougher, and the Celtics losing to the Lakers in the finals and Heat in the Conference Finals were both tougher, probably because the opponents were easy to hate.

I was surprised at how poorly Chara and Seidenberg played the latter half of this series, they are way too good to look that average. Maybe Chara's minutes at his age finally caught up to him, but I think a lot of it had to do with Julien being outcoached by Quenneville and not making proper adjustments like juno mentioned. And as obvious as it is, Tyler Seguin laid a giant fucking egg in the playoffs overall. He's a guy the Bruins are expecting loads of offense from, and he simply couldn't finish.

Also, Toews is a great fucking player, reminds me a ton of Bergeron, the highest possible compliment a Bruins fan can pay. He probably just became my favorite non Bruin in the NHL. Congrats Chicago, you fuckers earned it.

Boston dominated New York and Pittsburgh, and looked great at times against Chicago. But they didn't change their game plan to adjust to Chicago's change after game 3. They stuck to the same breakout, forecheck, positioning, etc... and to top it off, they often looked like they were trying to punish the Hawks instead of play D. Physical D works great, but I thought they lost their composure a little.

...and Chara, great as he is, was starting to piss me off with his continual mugging after the whistle. Boychuk and Krejci (???) were almost as bad.

I'd feel bad for you Pearljammer, but you got to poo your pants only 2 years ago. Flyers fans have made multiple finals trips since their last win in 1975. ...and don't even get me started on the Flames.

No need to be sorry, totally agree as usual. Honestly I'm happy that the Bruins were that close to taking a game in which Rask was average and their top defensive pairing of Chara and Seidenberg were far from their best. Give the Hawks credit for taking the B's out of their game and playing a faster style in which they excel. The Bruins need to get back to dictating a heavier game to take this series.

What a final this has been so far though, you're totally right about this being great for the NHL. I have to imagine the overall ratings for this final will be the best they've been in a long time. Sometimes I almost wish I didn't have a horse in the race so I could sit and enjoy it instead of pacing around the living room all game. But then I realize how lucky I am to have such a great team to root for.

What a game... Crawford must be relieved - he nearly cost the Blackhawks the game. They were the better team, flying at the Bruins with speed (sorry pearljammer) but Boston kept getting back in it by beating Crawford high glove side with stoppable shots.

Either way - what a sales job for the NHL and for hockey. Great final.
