as i put on the gossamer page - passion pit are masters at the same thing the kinks were - deceiving you with optimistic poppy melodies whilst having the lyrical content covering dark, melancholic places of our minds.

this battle is lost but i don't think i'll ever agree to the idea that passion pit are a dime a dozen synth pop group.

I usually try not to admit it but I really enjoy Passion Pit. I've just recently listened to The Horrors and they are great but I have more of a connection with PPit

I can discern the artists just fine, but it doesn't mean that they are wildly different. You can't deny that a lot of these bands are pretty much cut from the same cloth. Don't get me wrong, I eat most of this genre's shit up with a spoon, but you can't deny there are a million groups that have flocked to it. I still think Passion Pit is above Washed Out, Toro Y Moi, Foster the People, etc. But would you really really pick Passion Pit over say, The Rapture? Hot Chip? Foals? Any of the upper-tier I mentioned in the last post.

First off, thanks to DLGGLD and Jhereko for the excellent nominations and posts and videos! I watched them. All excellent. Also, I already had some knowledge of Passion Pit. The Horrors were a new find for me.

Anyway, I like both bands a lot.

But I'm going with....

THE HORRORS! Idk, they have such a great, rugged sound! Love how dirty it can all sound. I like it dirty, and Passion Pit is a lot more clean. That was the tipping point.

I like Passion Pit better, and I'll be picking them in this format. However, I think The Horrors will have a longer lasting career overall.

Passion Pit seems lost in the mid-level sparkle pop mix with bands like Empire of the Sun, Cut Copy, Neon Indian, and Two Door Cinema Club all on level footing with them. Then there's Phoenix, Animal Collective, MGMT, Postal Service (if they return full time), and Vampire Weekend who are way ahead of all of those. So it's easy for Passion Pit to get lost in the mix, and I don't know if they'll ever have a breakthrough album on the level that you have have expected from them around four years ago. I just have to expect that while it's not guaranteed, The Horrors have a much better chance of making an "iconic" album, and they might just do it in September, one of the best months to get critics attention it seems.

That whole muck that PP seems to be in reminds me of bands like The Hives during the garage rock revival, and bands like Toadies or Local H in that dying grunge era of 93-95.

So take a lot of post punk,throw in some shoegaze,a smidgen of Psychedelia,black drain pipe jeans and what do you have?Only one of the most swagged out bands of the last decade.What I love about this band is their progression throughout their albums,you get taken on a journey.They're not afraid to try new things and experiment with sound,all whilst drawing influence from some of the greatest bands of all time.

With Strange House we meet the band at their rawest,post punk crossed with garage rock along with that famous gothic aesthetic that got them so much early recognition.It's a really cool record that I played to death back in the day.

Then we move onto Primary Colours,my favourite of the band's albums,here we see the band draw influence from MBV,Jesus and The Mary Chain,etc. and it shows,it's not as atmospheric as Skying but rather like the previously mentioned bands the sounds the band creates are huge and they have never been bettered.Who doesn't love some shoegazed laden post punk?The answer nobody.You should definitely check this album out,if you haven't already.

Then onto easily their most acclaimed and accomplished album Skying.This album fills space,it creates an atmosphere when played like no other.It manages to be simple,sweet and poppy but still have epic vibez.This album sends me into a trance whenever I listen to it,I become completely hypnotized by it.

Their new album due out in September is one of my most eagerly awaited releases of the year,it will hopefully build on this bands already eccletic discography and take the bands to new heights of creativity and success,they deserve it.

passion pit show all the signs of the best new wave bands; the synths, the hooks, the emotion.

they've already created 2 near perfect and vastly overlooked albums full of great songcraft and mournful themes. here's a taste from each
