Last year I heard Bill Fay for the first time after he released his first album in decades. It was great, so I looked back into his past and discovered Time Of The Last Persecution. This is some of the most poignant songwriting I've ever heard. I'd easily place this among the best works of Dylan and Cohen. And unlike those two there's a more electric aspect to his music, allowing for a few epic solos. In a lot of ways this reminds me of Wilco decades before they came into existence.

Wipers - Over the Edge (1983)

One of the best albums of punk and alternative rock. The did it before The Pixies and Nirvana.

If I haven't already stated the Bat trio, Metropolis Pt. 2 by Dream Theater. Great music along with a mysterious story makes a great combo.

Any Day Now is a perfect opener, a real murky, low and dank song that sets the scene just right.

Newborn may well be my favourite song, that possibly holds a record, to me, for having the most perfect opening and closing minutes of any song. Music doesn't get much bigger than the moment from 6:18 onwards, absolutely earth shattering.

And possibly my favourite song on the record, Scattered Black and White is such a gorgeous closer. Craig Potter really steals the show on this one as a pianist, and matches Guy Garvey's tone and lyrics so perfectly. It's a delicate, twinkling at times, but at others that really deep low notes that resonates for a few seconds.
Brilliant stuff.

To me, the first two albums on my list are the most under rated: Sunset Man and Shake What God Gave Ya! from country soul singer James Otto.

i think any album that has over 500 points in BEA doesn't qualify as underrated. that was my first thought when i saw, and then looked up, "get behind me satan". your opinion?

One of my favorite progressive rock albums taking some influence from the genre of metal. This album has managed to create some classic tunes like "over my head". The tracks on this album are particularly interesting, at times they can feel very mellow(ish), at other times, they just rock out. It's a very refreshing album. Also, the harmonies are pretty dope.

This album is an atmospheric black metal which takes some of my favorite parts of that genre and adds a bit of a twist by using the assistance of ambient. It ends up creating a wonderful atmosphere. Number 3 of all time? Not necessarily, I probably don't think that, but promotion of great albums never hurt. Not everyone's gonna like it, and certainly not everyone is going to feel to same way as I do, but I certainly think it's worth a listen.

Just this really awesome progressive rock album with a good amount of ska influence and I'd even say that I can sense a little bit of pop or alternative rock in the mix. The main thing that I feel impresses me are the vocals. They certainly go well with the instruments.

As far as irish folk music goes, this is the pinnacle of it. Planxty manage to create very nice tunes within the irish folk music genre. Some very good stuff.

An interesting album. Best of the "rock in opposition" genre in my opinion. I can't describe it well, I'd recommend giving it a listen.

Seven Churches - Possessed:

Possibly the best thrash metal album I've listened to. Possesed plays very fierce and awesome metal tunes.

One of my favorite jangle pop albums. Some very nice and catchy tunes. Also, Oblivious is one of the catchiest songs I've ever heard.

And all around great punk rock album. Definitely something to check out.

There's a few more, but I think people might appreciate these the most.

There's some experimental elements, some electronic stuff going on, but its really hard to define these guys with an overarching genre. Its kind of like a more mellowed out "Battles".
