My father is 30 years older than me, and I'm nearly 40, so you can imagine 🤣

He did listen to 50s and early 60s rock 'n' roll, he loves Peter, Paul and Mary, and recently I gave him 4 vinyl albums (still need to find him a record player) with the following artists: Statler Brothers, Carpenters, Andrews Sisters, and Peter, Paul and Mary. He also likes older country music. He hates Nat "King" Cole and some other guy I forget (Johnny Mathis maybe? Maybe not), but only because some network took over the 40s-oldies station he used to listen to back in the 90s and started playing them every 30 minutes.

I know one of my father's favorite songs was "You're The One" by the Vogues and he saw The Beatles as the end of good rock and roll 🤣 But he also liked his college's theme song, The Animals' "We Gotta Get Out of this place". He also likes ABBA and Celine Dion. No accounting for taste 🤡

Cryogenically tempered strings are a thing, but that's just strings which are frozen and defrosted before being sold. It doesn't make your guitar sound smoother, though, it just adds durability to them and makes them last longer.

My dad had fairly varied taste too. Blur to Tom Waits, The Specials to Soundgarden. He'd spend a large proportion of his time and wages in record shops but he passed before I could really soak it up. Must go and delve into his vinyl collection again, it's been a criminally long time.

If you look through my dad's college record collection you'll find the usual suspects like Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Grateful Dead, etc., but since I've been alive he's been a connoisseur of smooth music. We're talking Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Hall & Oates, Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan, etc. The hardest thing I've heard him listen to is Icehouse's "Electric Blue" and I'm pretty sure Stevie Nicks is his favorite thing ever. The last purchases I remember him making were Dido, a generic zydeco CD, and Craig Chaquico solo (to which he happily exclaimed "he freezes his strings before he plays to make it sound smooth!").

Meat Loaf, Led Zep, Sabbath and a bunch of 80's pop. He listens to more, but those are the main ones.

Some of you are rather lucky, my dad mainly listens to the low grade rednecky country music with a little classic rock tossed in.

My dad usually listened to classical music but he's also a prog-head (he hated that word with the heated passion of burning lava); I read someone said his father is the biggest and perhaps only fan of The Moody Blues. Well, that's wrong; my dad has everything by them. Actually he didn't play me any popular music until I was 13 (EDIT: that's his favourite number). We just listened to Brahms and Mahler (I suppose he thought it's too early to pollute my mind with western popular music). But he gave me his 5 most favorite albums for my 13th birthday (Days of Future Passed, In the Court of the Crimson King, The Dark Side of the Moon, The Yes Album and Selling England by the Pound). He also has a lot of Jazz records but doesn't know anything about music after 1980.

The Beatles, Van Morrison, Elvis Costello (mainly) and a few other modern bands that get acclaim- like Arcade Fire, Flaming Lips etc.

Brian Adams - albums I can't remember the name of...

and about 10 different rock compilations.

My Dad was a teenager in the 50s, so he got me into all the early rock stuff. I am so glad he introduced me to Little Richard, Ray Charles, Elvis, Chuck Berry. He also liked the Everly Brothers and The Kingston Trio.

He went to College in the 60s, and went to the Altamont Concert with the Rolling Stones. Hot Rocks (RS best of) played in our house all the time. Sgt. Pepper's and Abbey Road did too. Then stuff like Quicksilver Messenger Service. Oh and early Steve Miller Band like Quicksilver Girl, Born in the USA, and The Joker. We used to take long drive late at night when I was like 5 and I remember the song Riders of the Storm by the Doors would scare the shit out of me. Donovan's Hurdy Gurdy man was the first time I fell in love with powerful guitar stuff like that. I also remember us having a moment with the song Mother by John Lennon. Paul Simon was also constantly playing... Graceland, Negotiations and Lovesongs, and Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme were all the time playing. I think Paul Simon was big in my family because everyone liked it. My mom hated the Stones and Elvis.

Before he died (went into a nursing home when I was 10 years old) he listened to almost only classical music. Gave him peace.

I didn't ever really like Patsy Cline, Don McClane, or Willie Nelson. He also listened to poets like Rod McCuen and Glen Yarbourgh (sp) that bore the hell out of me.
