Being the oldest and "wisest" in the band he was the glue that brought them and kept them together. Everyone always talks about Jim when it comes to The Doors and sure enough Jim Morrison was a mythical enough figure to deserve it all. But musically, The Doors was possible only with those exact four musicians. Jim never would have sang if it wasn't for Ray and some nights when Jim was too "high" Ray would sing for him and hardly anybody in the crowd noticed or complained.

There are a few rock musicians who set themselves apart by playing the organ and their time seems to be up lately. Rick Wright (Pink Floyd), Jon Lord (Deep purple) and now Ray.

Let's face it, you can do wonders with modern keyboards, but there has always been something raw and daddyrockingly irreplaceable about a good old Hammond organ solo.

I too am not a Doors fan, but I certainly recognized the quality of his keyboard playing. The guy in The Animals have had more of an influence on me, but regardless, it's sad that he succumbed to cancer. Now go forth and indulge in albums by The Doors, ye Doors fans. 😄

One of the greatest keyboard sounds of all-time. The Doors were one of the bands I grew up with, the soundtrack to many a stoned night spent with friends. RIP.

I don't like The Doors much at all, but he remains, in my opinion, the greatest keyboardist in modern music.
Perhaps not through technical ability, but the way he was able to add so much with so little.

Just woke up this morning to hear that Ray Manzarek has passed away.

I absolutely loved the keyboards in the Doors.

Will have to bang their tunes out today I think in respect. �'�
