Both are fantastic albums, eventually sided with You Are Free however.

I like both. Voted for Angherr Shisspa. I expected Cat Power to just own this, and destroy the competition.

EDIT: And i do prefer Angherr Shisspa as an album.

hmmmm......

Angherr Shisspa is a brilliantly crazy and intricate prog album, something that is a bit of a rarity these days. The fact that it sounds ridiculous on purpose as opposed to by accident probably helps.

You are Free was good as well, I didn't like every song, but quite a few were brilliant. The sadness of "Names" really got to me.

Probably going to go with Angherr Shisspa, though its a close decision.

You Are Free is the 6th LP by Chan Marshall a.k.a. Cat Power, and her best. It's her best because it combines two sides of her work that otherwise dominate, in turn, Cat Power's discography. The first part of her career was marked by a series of extremely raw, unsettling lo-fi albums of despair, fear and infinite distress. She would progressively enrich her instrumentation though, letting a more serene, less grim, poppier side lurk out (to the point of blandness at later times). You Are Free is where everything combines perfectly. It's quite an accomplishment, because what could sound like a take on the indie 'big business' and a search for a wider audience, through more diversity of sound and accessibility, never sounds like a sellout and retains just as much of the older Cat Power as anyone could take, remaining extremely emotional - still to an achingly poignant level sometimes, as when the singer informs us about how her former schoolmates have got on with their respective lifes (tearjerker alert):

Other songs retain that simple take on songwriting : one voice, one instrument. But it always more polished, less bilious than her previous efforts :

Yeah, I don't even think it is possible for Angherr Shisspa to win and I nominated it, haha. I love both albums. But really, my love for Angherr Shisspa started to deteriorate after a while. But that first listen was great. I guess I should vote for it since I nominated it, haha.

Agreed. I still need to listen to Angherr Shisspa, but it's going to need to be something really, really special to win my vote
