I was lucky enough to see Antony live in a very small club 7 or 8 years ago. Despite vocal effects and less than favorable acoustics, he was immediately mindblowing the moment he opened his mouth. I haven't seen many singers capable of that.

I Am a Bird Now. Since I Left You is very good (though I don't think it's the masterpiece that some claim it to be), but I Am a Bird Now is fucking beautiful.

Feel like I'm probably going to be fighting a losing battle, but of course I urge you (of course) to hear both before voting.

As Norman said, 'Hope There's Someone' alone should be enough to persuade you of how poignant this album is.
The moment when Antony begins to wail as the wall of pianos starts to expand is one of the finest moments in music, and his final "oohs" are the perfect introduction to the rest of the album.

But there's so much more, Antony crams everything he can into a mere 35 minutes, not one moment isn't well spent. Whilst the first thing you'll notice is probably Antony's voice, which is a merit all by itself - both baritone and powerful, whilst remaining delicate and ridden with angst - some of the composition on this record really steals the show. The piano, the strings, the drums, the trumpets, all seems to flutter around Antony's voice - all of them seem to be very intricate, but work together almost flawlessly.

If something more upbeat is your thing, Fistfull of Love proves Antony call still bring a smile to your face.

And just listening to him singing in that one, nothing feels remotely scripted - this is him surrendering himself to the music, he starts doing entirely his own thing towards the end. This record is entirely about Antony's thoughts, it's a complete project of himself at his most vulnerable, whilst never coming across as pretentious.
The final lyrics:

"Cause I'm a bird girl
And the bird girls go to heaven
I'm a bird girl
And the bird girls can fly
Bird girls can fly"

Are possibly the saddest, yet most uplifting lyrics I've ever heard. This album, right from the start, is about hope - it's always a bright album at heart, not designed to make you feel any less about the world.

And I think it's exactly that why I believe that it beats Since I Met You. Sure, The Avalanches are fun, and they do a brilliant job of mashing together samples, but I Am A Bird now is about a person, and I think there's something much more valuable that comes with that.

That's just me though.

Ah, my first album to promote, cool. Well, for those of you who have never heard of them, The Avalanches are a group from Australia, they make electronic music and are named after an American band from the 60's, also called The Avalanches.

Anyway, music talk now, Since I Left You is the debut and, to date, only album they've released (Hopefully someday we shall see this mythical second album...).
Basically the album consists of numerous samples, everything from Raekwon to Madonna, and many many more (Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be any concrete list of samples, but if anybody knows of one, that'd be awesome).

The album is basically a good bit of fun, works really well together and so on, hopefully some of you will get as much enjoyment out of it as I do. It always cheers me up and gets me dancing.

Oh Jesus. This matchup just isn't fair. I love both, and each album stands as one of the most refreshingly original records of the decade. That said, Since I Left You is a truly rare specimen and that's where my vote will be going.
