I've had time to think about this, and I'm sorry if I caused any trouble. I'm willing to wait three months before I start my tourney.

The live albums tourney, I mean. I don't know about this one.

JMan, if you have to work this hard to get people to understand what your tourney is even supposed to be about, then maybe, just maybe, it isn't really that good of an idea...

I agree that just doing a best Band Members tournament in general is way too broad. It's too hard to draw an easy comparison what a drummer and a vocalist mean to the band, and often this seems like bringing up arguments over a narrower scope of specific bands about who one thinks was more vital. I think making it more specific (like best vocalist, best guitarist, best drummer or even going for something like best producer or best songwriter/songwriting teams) would make the comparisons more leveled and thus creating a fairer and more interesting tournament.

And again, as Tekin alluded to, starting tournaments or throwing ideas around is easy, but actually managing all facets of the tourney, dealing with some inevitable complaints and making sure you have the time to see each round to it's completion is not at all a cakewalk (trust me).

Some members do more than others. Jimmy was a guitarist, composer, lyricist and backing vocalist. Cobain was a vocalist, lead guitarist, and lyricist. Things like that. Plus, there's how well each nominee gets their job(s) done.

This is basically the concept I had last year but there were too many tournaments being run (including my own). I still think it's a good and managable idea and it ends with BEA having chosen an ultimate band (the winner in each category). Because really otherwise how do I compare Robert Fripp's guitarwork to Alan White's drumming to Chris Martin's keys playing to Peter Hook's bass playing to Wayne Coyne's singing?

That just doesn't make sense to me to have them all in one group. If you want to compare how important each person were to a band it sounds like a good discussion but I'm not so sure it has the substance or legs for a tournament.

Dangit. Coverdale-Page is essential. I don't know how to classify Jimmy Page without being able to consider that.
