How is this any different than if I based best guitar players on their technical ability?

I don't think anybody's better at rhyming than Eminem. I'm not a fan of his music, but, credit where credit is due, his rhyming is better than anyone else's.

Paul Simon- always

John Lennon - post Beatles, mostly
Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you think you're so clever and classless and free
But you're still fucking peasants as far as I can see

Bono (mostly from Joshua Tree through Pop albums)
Your wheels are spinning but your upside down

Bob Dylan - Mostly early stuff before 1967
He’s only a pawn in their game

Kurt Cobain - love his nonsensical stuff that just clicks anyways
It's ok to eat fish, cause they don't have any feelings.

Honorable mention
Anthony Kiedis
Dave Grohl
Eminem
Wyclef Jean
