I listened to both albums, I just didn't have anything positive or interesting to say about The Cold Vein. I rated it 15 out of 100.

I don't appreciate the implication, Mod.

I'd listening to The Cold Vein yesterday, and I think I must have not given it much attention - because a lot of it washed right over me, yet it seemed like quite an intricate record.

Music Has The Right, however, really got under skin on the first listen - really forced me to listen deeper into it.

To be honest, I didn't think much of either, but Boards of Canada have a much stronger focus in their music, I think.

I am continually torn on Boards of Canada. They have a pretty and unique sound, however something about the overall atmosphere can seem thin or weedy to me, and when I can't get into the atmosphere, the music ends up feeling plodding and slightly irritating. How much I enjoy them really depends on my mood.

I always enjoy The Cold Vein when I listen to it, so thats how I voted.

I think both of these albums have a pretty cool, singular sound, but I'm voting The Cold Vein. Apocalyptic boom-bap. I like (not love) Boards of Canada, but prefer Geogaddi to Music Has The Right To Children, and might even prefer Tomorrow's Harvest, which is far too low on my 2013 chart. But The Cold Vein is incredible. Vast Aire and Vordul Mega are the precursors to billy woods, not the most technically able in terms of flow but capable of spitting deep, cold rhymes that deserve to be listened to closely. They're both also fantastic at coming up with a instantly memorable one-liner. And El-P's production is just awe-inspiring - take that foreboding, distorted, crumbling church organ sound on 'Straight Off the D.I.C.' for example, which always brings to mind images of a crew gathered together on a doomed space shuttle, hurtling towards the sun, crammed into the ship's tiny chapel, praying as one regardless of faith; the "weightless and fireproof" pitched up angelic hymn snippets that give 'Scream Phoenix' the aura of reincarnation or, perhaps more accurately, reawakening that the song's title would suggest; the squelchy robo-funk of 'Vein', a twisted re-imaging of a lost Prince & The (Replicant) Revolution demo. The Cold Vein is one of hip-hop's strangest and most enduring releases, and it gets my vote.

If this is nü metal i must be missing all of the metal aspects of it. El P is one of the best producers in the game. Never understood why Def Jux has been so divisive.

Neither on my chart, both are excellent. The cold Vein is a recent discovery and I just love it. BoC is also basically equally great but I just don't love it right now so much. So I'm voting "Cannibal Ox".

Fuck, I love both of these, and they're both on my chart. Even though I don't consider it their debut, due to the vast amount of music they made before it, I gotta go with BoC on this one, being one of my favorite albums of all time and all.

I really hope Cold Vein puts up a good fight, I really love that album, its a recent discovery for me(Thanks dbz). EL-P's production is at the top of its game, yet the rapping still manages to hold it's own against it.
