I like acid rock as much as the next guy. In-a-gadda-da-vida, Surrealistic Pillow, Incense and Peppermints, and Freak Out are all in my 100. So, this does not come from unfamiliarity with the genre: Red Crayola is just awful. Random noise is an element in psychedelia, sure, and when used in moderation it really works. Parable of Arable Land was about 80% random noise, and that's just too much.

Now, I'm not a fan of 90's music. The Record Industries interference in music was at its worst in that decade, but that's a rant for another time. Oasis was the among the best of a bad crop.

If you ask me if I'd rather hear a 90's pop album or a psychedelic album, I'd pick psychedelic, almost every time.

But not this time. Vote to Oasis.

Funny I havent actually heard an Oasis album either and can only name like two of their songs of the top of my head. I dont hate them but nothing really makes me want to listen to a full album either. I wont vote (i do really like Parable) but Im guessing I wont need to anyway since Oasis is akin to leprosy on BEA.

I haven't actually heard the Red Crayola album (though I will if I have time over the next couple of days), but I'd like to say a few words about the Oasis album:

If you haven't heard Oasis' debut, definitely do so before you assume it sucks. Oasis takes a lot of flak, and I can understand why, but their first album is just 50 minutes of raw energy, filled with catchy hooks and powerful melodies. It even gets kinda trippy in places, which will probably surprise those who have only heard Morning Glory. There's also none of that cheesy ballad bullshit ("Wonderwall", "Don't Look Back in Anger", "Cast No Shadow"-ish, etc.), which is the biggest turnoff from their second album for me personally.

So definitely give it a listen. There will always be plenty of people who dislike it, so I'm not promising anything, but if all you know about Oasis is Morning Glory (or if all you've heard is "Wonderwall" and "Don't Look Back in Anger"), then this album could be a pleasant surprise.

Well it wasn't going to take much to beat Oasis on this one.

I'm surprised at how good Parable is. I don't understand it - it's some sort of XTC meets Suicide meets Joy Division and then went to go try acid with Lennon ... and I totally approve.

That Oasis album, along with the next one, has a few good songs but overall fails to impress. It's got so many samey-sounding songs anyway, so the record should've probably been only around 30 to 40 minutes long at the most.
